UMP and UYO Partner with Mr and Miss BIU Pageant

Ubuntu Music People (UMP) and UYO Youth NGO have announced a partnership with the Mr and Miss BIU Beauty Pageant scheduled for 15th August 2026 at the Blantyre campus of Blantyre International University. The announcement was made in a press release dated 14th August 2026. As part of the partnership, UMP will provide the winners’ crowns, sashes, bouquets and other prizes. Reigning Miss UMP Yemis Mzoma and Fashion and Pageant Coordinator Phatiel Simwango will serve on the judging panel as UMP representatives. The new title holders will also work closely with Miss UMP on various activities during their tenure. The pageant falls under the UMP College Club Network, of which BIU is a registered member.

The 2026 pageant will feature 10 contestants. Competing for Miss BIU are Rose Ellen Mwanza, Pemphero Jonas, Madalitso Jaston Mwamanda, Seshther Banda and Asiyatu Leman. The Mr BIU contestants are Alkostie Chifuniro Chauma, Vincent Nanah Chilenje, Hanief Makanga, Prince Yuma and Comfort Baziz. Speaking on the collaboration, Miss UMP Yemis Mzoma said the event is more than just a competition. _“It’s a platform that builds confidence, leadership and gives students a voice to represent BIU and champion real causes,”_ she said, adding that she is proud of the contestants’ courage and believes the edition will showcase the beauty, brains and purpose of BIU students.

In conclusion, the partnership between UMP, UYO Youth NGO and the Mr and Miss BIU Pageant highlights a commitment to empowering student leadership and representation at BIU. With support from UMP and UYO, the pageant aims to crown ambassadors who will promote confidence, education and community impact.

UYO, UMP and Chitoliro Release Fourth Cypher with MZUNI After MUST, CU and BUNDA

UYO and UMP, in collaboration with Chitoliro, have released a fourth cypher featuring artists from MZUNI. This follows the earlier release of three cyphers from MUST, CU and BUNDA as part of an ongoing project to spotlight young talent across Malawi’s colleges and universities.

The project aims to provide a platform for young and emerging artists across colleges and universities to showcase their talent, connect with wider audiences and contribute to the growth of Malawi's creative industry.

With the first three cyphers spotlighting MUST, CU and BUNDA, the new MZUNI cypher expands the reach of the initiative. Each cypher brings together students to represent their institutions through music, giving them space to express themselves while building a network across campuses.

The release of the MZUNI cypher marks another step in the collaboration between UYO, UMP and Chitoliro to grow Malawi’s creative scene. With four institutions now featured, the project continues to connect student artists and amplify youth voices nationwide.

CMIFF 2026 Announces First Films, Malawi’s Fatsani and Apongozi Selected

The Cape Maclear International Film Festival [CMIFF] has revealed its first film selections for 2026. Malawian titles Fatsani and Apongozi are among the 22 films chosen. The 3rd edition runs 15th - 17th October 2026 at Fat Monkeys, Cape Maclear, Mangochi.

According to the 12 August 2026 press release, phase one features 22 films from 12 countries. Malawi leads with 6 films, followed by Brazil with 5. Fatsani is listed under Feature Films while Apongozi is the only Series.
CMIFF Team Lead Edward Longwe said submissions are still open until 15th September 2026 via https://tinyurl.com/Call4films. Confirmed performances include Keturah and DJ Clame, with more acts to be announced.

With Malawian stories on the lineup, CMIFF 2026 is set to showcase local talent alongside global cinema in a 3-day celebration of film, music and culture on the shores of Lake Malawi.
