MALAWI BECOMES THE ONLY AFRICAN COUNTRY OPPOSING A UNITED NATIONS RESOLUTION DEMANDING ISRAEL TO ENTIRELY PULL OUT OF PALESTINIAN AREAS WITHIN A YEAR

The United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution Wednesday demanding that Israel entirely pull out of Palestinian areas within a year, and called for an embargo on arms that Israel might use in those areas.

The Foreign Ministry panned the decision as “cynical international politics” that would encourage terrorism and harm the chances for peace.

The resolution called for Israel to “end without delay its unlawful presence” in “Occupied Palestinian Territory” within 12 months, including all soldiers and civilians.

The resolution welcomed a July ruling by the International Court of Justice that said Israel’s control of Palestinian territories and settlements is illegal and should be withdrawn.

The advisory by the highest United Nations court, also known as the World Court, said this should be done “as rapidly as possible,” while the General Assembly resolution imposed a 12-month deadline.

The UN also called on states to “take steps towards ceasing the importation of any products originating in the Israeli settlements, as well as the provision or transfer of arms, munitions and related equipment to Israel… where there are reasonable grounds to suspect that they may be used in the Occupied Palestinian Territory.”

The resolution was sponsored by the “State of Palestine” and 29 other countries, mostly Muslim nations.

Some 124 countries supported the measure, 14 opposed it, and 43 abstained. Israel, the US, Czechia, and Argentina were the largest countries opposing, along with Pacific island nations. Paraguay and Malawi also opposed the measure.

Many European nations abstained, including Ukraine, the UK, Germany, and Italy, as did Canada and Australia.

The Foreign Ministry said it was “a distorted decision that is disconnected from reality, encourages terrorism, and harms the chances for peace.”

Dear President,

I am heartbroken and deeply concerned about your decision to side with the Israeli militants in the recent United Nations General Assembly. It seems that your choice was influenced by wanting to maintain good ties with the Israeli government, but I must remind you that this is not the opinion of the Malawian people as a whole. When you are representing our nation on the global stage, it is crucial that you express the national consensus, not just your personal beliefs.

By aligning yourself with a side that is responsible for the slaughter of innocent Palestinian civilians, you are tarnishing Malawi's reputation as the "warm heart of Africa." We are now being seen as war influencers, despite the fact that many Malawians do not support such atrocities. Are we really a God-fearing nation if we condone the killing of innocent people in the name of politics?

I urge you to reconsider your actions and make decisions based on what is best for our country and the principles of peace and justice. The world is watching, and it is important that we uphold our values and stand on the right side of history.

Next time you are called to vote on such important issues, please think of the Malawian people and the values we hold dear. It is better to break ties with those who support murder than to compromise our integrity and humanity.

As a final thought, I leave you with this proverb: "The road to hell is paved with good intentions." Let us choose to walk the path of righteousness and peace, even if it means standing alone. From today onwards, I will say in the name of my ancestors' God, rather than in the name of the God of Israel, for I have come to realize that true divinity does not condone violence and bloodshed.

As I delved deeper into these teachings, I found myself wondering how such beliefs, centered on love, compassion, and unity, could be perceived as leading one to eternal damnation.
