Growing maize is not for the faint-hearted 😔🌽
Maybe… maybe not.

This year I decided to try something different, growing maize behind my house. A small backyard experiment where I can supervise every time I step outside or nkamataya zinyalala

No excuses.
No “we didn’t have enough water.”
No “the sun was too much.”
No stories of why it won’t work at the farm.

Just me, the soil, and the maize.🌽

And honestly,
It has been a slow but very fulfilling journey and tomorrow marks 17 days of my little experiment actually working.

Sometimes you just have to start small and see for yourself. 💛🌽✨

Our Cabbage Comeback: A Little Farm Story 💚

Farming teaches you patience, resilience, and most of all hope.

On may 1 we planted our cabbage seedlings from ,heavy rains hit us hard the very same day and it followed through for a few weeks. We watched helplessly as nearly half of our cabbage died a few weeks after the rains stopped. No matter what we tried, watering, feeding, making drainages they kept dying every single day, it was devastating, and we weren't the only ones 😭 sometimes mother nature's wrath can sting a bit 😅😅

But we didn’t give up.💪

We replanted. We patched up what we could. Some of the new seedlings didn’t survive—but some did. And slowly, surely, the field began to turn green again, almost half of the crop made a comeback.

Every healthy head today is a quiet reminder that growth doesn’t always follow a straight line. Sometimes, you lose, learn, replant, and still harvest something beautiful.

To every farmer out there facing their own storm: keep going. 🌧️➡️🌤️

The view is consistently breathtaking.
By planting these pine trees to define our property's boundaries, we've not only achieved our goal but also brought a sense of harmony to our neighborhood, peacefully resolving mphaka disputes, because who needs drama when you have pine trees?
