Day 10 of Bible Study: Christian Leadership
Lesson 2; Learning about Christian leadership
The rewards of Christian leadership
There are many challenges in leadership, but leadership in Christ’s church can also be a wonderful experience. God often rewards his leaders in many ways.
First of all, God gives his leaders the reward of joy. Yes, there are difficult times. And there are times when a leader may want to give up. But a leader may also see God’s work in people’s lives. He may see how God uses him. This will make his own faith stronger (verse 13 in our passage). To see how the Holy Spirit works in the lives of young people, old people, new Christians, and old Christians, can bring great joy to a leader’s heart.
Secondly, God often gives his leaders the reward of a good name. Leaders should not try to be important. They should not seek praise for themselves. But they can be happy when other believers thank them for their work. They can be happy when they see how other believers begin to follow their example.
But the most important reward is the eternal reward which God promises to every faithful leader. When Christ returns, he will say to his faithful leaders, “Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness!'” (Matthew 25:23).
Always remember
To learn how to be good Christian leaders, we can go to:
God’s principles
The spiritual and moral rules in the Bible
God’s patterns
The examples of other leaders which we find in the Bible, in our own lives, and in history
God’s providence
Other resources that God has given to us
Christian leadership is challenging, because of:
The leader’s own personality
The leader’s own sin
The leader’s role models (who are not perfect)
Christian leadership also has many rewards, such as:
The reward of joy
The reward of a good name
The eternal reward which God promises to faithful leaders
