📌 INM 2026 Government Fees – 50% Discount Explained

You might have heard about a 50% discount on government fees, and it certainly sounds attractive considering the recent increase in 2026 fees.

But how does it work?
Here’s what we have learned so far:

🔹 The 50% discount is not automatic and is not granted by default.
Even when applying through family ties, several factors are reviewed to determine eligibility. Ultimately, the final decision rests with the immigration authority handling each application.

🔹 Cases with better chances of receiving the 50% fee:
• Change of status through family ties, which are always supported by marriage or birth certificates, duly apostilled and officially translated.

🔹 Applications with a possibility, but less straightforward:
• Canjes or renewal when the stay was authorized based on family unity.
• These types of applications do not usually require certificates; however, in order to request the discount, certificates must be included (apostilled and translated).
• Including certificates in applications where they were not originally required may involve additional validations and can result in longer processing times.

ℹ️ Important:
Eligibility depends on the specific circumstances of each case, and criteria may vary between INM offices.

📩 For case-specific guidance, personalized advice is always recommended.

Good News!
📢 Financial requirements for residency may go a bit lower this year.

Contrary to what has been circulating without basis, and to the incorrect calculations being shared regarding the 2026 financial requirements, it appears that the requirements will tend to go DOWN this year, not up.

One key reason is that the Mexican peso is stronger against the U.S. dollar in January 2026 compared to January 2025.
Additionally, this year the requirements are based on UMAs, not the minimum wage, which also impacts the final amounts.

Here’s an example published by the Canadian Consulate (Leamington and Oklahoma):

Oklahoma
• 2025: $4,396
• 2026: $4,293

Leamington
• 2025: $6,173
• 2026: $5,679

The decrease is not substantial, but it’s still good news, especially when compared to the significant increases we’ve seen over the past few years.

The official UMA value for 2026 will be announced tomorrow in the DOF (Diario Oficial de la Federación), Mexico’s Official Gazette, and the new amounts will enter into force in February 2026.

Keep posted! 🤓

📢 Only 4 Days Left to Book INM Appointments Before the Holiday Closure

As we approach the end of the year, we want to remind everyone that there might be only 4 more days left to secure an INM appointment before the annual holiday 🎄closure begins, before the expected holiday closure, which is projected to run from December 20 to January 4.

✨ The good news:
We are recently seeing afternoon appointments available, at least at the busiest INM offices.

📅 Please plan accordingly.
With closures approaching, appointment availability can change quickly. Booking now helps avoid delays in your residency process.

🔎 Important Note:
While we do not have any special privileges or “insider access” to obtain appointments, we fully understand how the system behaves and have developed the skills and strategies needed to secure dates as efficiently as possible.

Did you know that both Temporary and Permanent residents in Mexico are eligible to access the public healthcare system?
As a resident, you have the right to enroll in IMSS (Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social), the country’s main public healthcare provider. Enrollment is possible by paying an affordable monthly fee.

While private health insurance often offers faster service and access to a broader network of doctors and hospitals, it can also have certain limitations. That’s why many residents choose to have both: private insurance for routine or urgent needs, and IMSS as a safety net; particularly valuable in the case of serious or long-term illnesses.

Having access to IMSS can bring peace of mind, especially if unexpected medical issues arise. It covers a wide range of services including general medicine, specialist care, hospitalization, and even surgeries in many cases.

If you’re living in Mexico, it’s definitely worth considering IMSS as part of your overall healthcare strategy.

Feel free to contact us if you need guidance or support.
