GP Expat Services PVR is a specialized boutique immigration and relocation agency that provides in-person assistance for expats navigating the Mexican residency process in Puerto Vallarta. Founded by Gabriela Pellicer—a former Chief Immigration Officer at Mexico's National Immigration Institute (INM)—the agency uses a team of former immigration officers to guide clients smoothly through complex legal frameworks.

Key Services Offered include:

Consulate Visa Preparation: Helping clients prepare applications and assemble documents for initial residency visa interviews at Mexican consulates abroad.

In-Country INM Procedures: Managing the Canje (exchange) process to swap a consulate visa for a physical residency card, as well as handling renewals, address updates, and status changes. Local clients in Puerto Vallarta are accompanied directly to the local INM office by local associates like Laura or Norma.

Dual Citizenship: Guiding eligible global applicants with Mexican lineage through the complete nationality and passport application workflow.

Puerto Vallarta Relocation Tours: Providing personalized, non-touristic private tours designed to help prospective expats evaluate neighborhoods, understand the lifestyle, and learn how the city functions.

Concierge & Destination Support: Assisting new arrivals with getting local driver's licenses, setting up bank accounts, registering for RFC tax numbers, and connecting utilities.

📌 INM 2026 Government Fees – 50% Discount Explained

You might have heard about a 50% discount on government fees, and it certainly sounds attractive considering the recent increase in 2026 fees.

But how does it work?
Here’s what we have learned so far:

🔹 The 50% discount is not automatic and is not granted by default.
Even when applying through family ties, several factors are reviewed to determine eligibility. Ultimately, the final decision rests with the immigration authority handling each application.

🔹 Cases with better chances of receiving the 50% fee:
• Change of status through family ties, which are always supported by marriage or birth certificates, duly apostilled and officially translated.

🔹 Applications with a possibility, but less straightforward:
• Canjes or renewal when the stay was authorized based on family unity.
• These types of applications do not usually require certificates; however, in order to request the discount, certificates must be included (apostilled and translated).
• Including certificates in applications where they were not originally required may involve additional validations and can result in longer processing times.

ℹ️ Important:
Eligibility depends on the specific circumstances of each case, and criteria may vary between INM offices.

📩 For case-specific guidance, personalized advice is always recommended.

Good News!
📢 Financial requirements for residency may go a bit lower this year.

Contrary to what has been circulating without basis, and to the incorrect calculations being shared regarding the 2026 financial requirements, it appears that the requirements will tend to go DOWN this year, not up.

One key reason is that the Mexican peso is stronger against the U.S. dollar in January 2026 compared to January 2025.
Additionally, this year the requirements are based on UMAs, not the minimum wage, which also impacts the final amounts.

Here’s an example published by the Canadian Consulate (Leamington and Oklahoma):

Oklahoma
• 2025: $4,396
• 2026: $4,293

Leamington
• 2025: $6,173
• 2026: $5,679

The decrease is not substantial, but it’s still good news, especially when compared to the significant increases we’ve seen over the past few years.

The official UMA value for 2026 will be announced tomorrow in the DOF (Diario Oficial de la Federación), Mexico’s Official Gazette, and the new amounts will enter into force in February 2026.

Keep posted! 🤓
