As well as the posada, there is another type of Christmas play known as "Pastorelas" (The Shepherds). These tell the story of the shepherds going to find baby Jesus and are often very funny, because the devil always tries to stop the shepherds by tempting them along the way. But the shepherds always get there in the end, often with the help of the Archangel Michael, who comes and beats the devil. 👼👹🎄💀🇲🇽

When the Emperor Maximilian and his wife Carlota imported a Christmas tree from Europe and installed it in Chapultepec Castle, their palatial home, the tree impressed some of Mexico’s wealthy families, who began to install their own trees at Christmas time 🎄💀🇲🇽

AY AY AY! ¿Who doesn't love a good mariachi band? Mariachi dates back to at least the 19th century in western Mexico, where some believe it developed in the state of Jalisco near Guadalajara.

Over time, mariachi has become important beyond Mexico's borders. In 2011, for example, UNESCO recognized mariachi as part of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.💃🕺🎺💀🇲🇽🇽️ .

Tlaloc · God of rain and lightning 💧⚡For the Aztecs, Tlaloc was "the one who made things sprout," he was also called the "nectar of the earth." It is distinguished by its "bulging eyes" and its jaguar teeth. Its part of jaguar is derived from the Olmec culture, whose god of rain was represented as a jaguar-man 🐆💀🇲🇽️
