Mexico’s Tax Administration Service (SAT) has significantly stepped up its tax enforcement, issuing millions of alerts through emails, SMS, phone calls, Tax Mailbox (Buzón Tributario) notices, and formal requests.
This reflects the SAT's 2026 Master Plan, which sets a historic revenue target of 5.8 trillion pesos and standardizes audit criteria nationwide.
How does SAT enforcement escalate?
-Email: notification of discrepancies or omissions.
- Tax Mailbox (Buzón Tributario): official tax communication.
- SMS and phone calls: reminders on pending filings or payments.
- Formal request (Requerimiento): official compliance notice.
- Expedited and in-depth reviews: examination of detected inconsistencies.
- Restriction of the Digital Seal Certificate (CSD): The company may be temporarily prevented from issuing electronic invoices if certain irregularities are not timely addressed.
What should you do?
- Keep your SAT contact info up to date.
- Check your Tax Mailbox regularly.
- Respond promptly to any notice.
Receiving a SAT notice does't mean non-compliance, but ignoring it might make it one.
