From black to green: The story of Denmark's green transition

Over the past five decades, Denmark has pioneered energy transition through ambitious policies, technological innovation and the implementation of solutions on land and sea.

Denmark’s transition is a story of moving from black to green by means of public-private partnerships, broad political agreements, strong research and development and a private sector charging action at an early stage.

What an incredible privilege to stand at the intersection of history and the future! 🏙️

From the depths of its foundations to the pinnacle of its spire, a profound thank you for an unforgettable experience to YAM Dato’ Tengku Ab. Aziz Tengku Abdul Mahmud, CEO PNB Merdeka Ventures and Merdeka 118 team.

We are deeply greatful for their incredible hospitality in hosting the visit of members from the Nordic Chambers of Commerce(MFBC Malaysian-Finnish Business Council (Executive Office), Malaysia Norway Business Council, SwedCham Malaysia and Danish Chamber of Commerce, Malaysia (Dancham) giving us an opportunity to gain an insider's perspective on the magnificent Merdeka 118 and the visionary redevelopment of the heritage area.

The visit was a masterclass in urban regeneration, showcasing how to honour a nation's heritage—by preserving the historic Stadium Merdeka and Stadium Negara—while building a sustainable, world-class future for Kuala Lumpur.

DanCham key takeaways:

Honouring Heritage - This isn't just a new skyscraper; it's a careful stewardship of Malaysian history. The project beautifully integrates and preserves the iconic Stadium Merdeka (where independence was declared in 1957) and Stadium Negara, ensuring the nation's proud legacy is not just remembered, but is a living part of the community.

A Masterplan for the Community - The vision goes far beyond luxury retail and offices. It’s about creating a holistic ecosystem with upgraded housing, public parks, educational facilities, and seamless connectivity—a true urban regeneration project.

Engineering & Sustainability Prowess - Witnessing the precision and innovation behind this architectural was awe-inspiring showcasing a commitment to sustainability and human-centric design that deeply resonates with Nordic values.

This visit was a powerful reminder of how visionary urban development can celebrate a nation's past while boldly building its future. It was inspiring to see the collaboration and shared learning between Nordic and Malaysian businesses in shaping the cities of tomorrow.

We were especially proud to see Nordic excellence integrated into this iconic project:

• Kamstrup (Denmark): Enabling smart energy management with advanced metering solutions.
• KONE (Finland) - Powering the vertical journey with their groundbreaking KONE elevator technology.
• Jotun (Norway) - Protecting the structure with high-performance coatings.

The experience, a fascinating site tour and the breathtaking panoramic views from the top to a superb networking lunch at the top at Park Hyatt Hotel, was nothing short of exceptional. It was a perfect setting to connect and reflect on the future of sustainable development.

Thank you once again to the PNB Ventures leadership and team for your generosity.

DanCham would like to express our greatful thanks to our members who participated in this visit.
