However when combined effectively, that thing is

Do you know some of the biggest brands in the world are using the same fonts?

We have listed a few examples here, but there are a tremendous amount.

If you’re designing what’s called a logo suite that involves not only a symbol/icon but also accompanied with a word mark you should take selecting your font into serious consideration.

But don’t just take the font at face value, the color it’s applied with, the way it’s dressed up can completely change the impact, feeling & signal.

This could even be as simple as selecting what’s called a weight or even just italicizing for a different impact.

Even the simplest nuances can completely change the feel of a brand.

Rebranding could be a small change, or a substantial one. However the important component, is ensuring a company's memorability.

This is a little known story, of a famous artist Salvador Dali and his friend, the Founder of famous brand Chupa Chups.

The story is said that, over sharing a coffee, founder Enric Bernat was complaining about his company logo.

To help his friend, Salvador spent the proceeding hours sketching ideas and genially come to some great conclusions.

He moved the logo from the side of the product to the top, placed the old wordmark in a sunflower shape - adding an orange color & changing the wordmark to red.

These were simple changes, but ones that dramatically emboldened the companies visual identity.

Injecting fun, uniqueness, and a timeless brand that has stood the test of time.

What makes a logo iconic is varied, but there are famous examples of how a simple shape can be the difference between forgettable & memorable.

They’re not reserved for product based businesses or franchises. Anyone can use them, any brand, whether it is big or small.

How many colors does a brand need?

Well that depends, on context, application, communication, and a few other long ambiguous words (but that’s for another post)

In this post, we just wanted to highlight the value of having more than just one primary color for your brand - consider the idea of using multiple palettes (what are the perks?)

Color can assist with many things, marketing capability, a contrast to highlight the most important design asset, and even the touchpoint itself (different situations could use varying colors - but still communicate the one brand.)

Are you feeling a bit like an egg out of the carton when it comes to color? 🤔

We don't blame you, the tricky thing is some of the language is interchangeable. People will use the word Hue when they mean shade, or visa versa.

Our goal today is to simplify things for you with some visuals and quick explanations.

If you are new to branding & colors, I hope this clears the air and allows you to cut through the confusion and get right on with your business.

If you’re developing your new company, brand or identity. Avoid jumping right on the primary colors and take shades, tones, hue’s, warms & cools into some consideration.

If it seems your competitors have done everything, don’t fret - combination palettes are your best friend. Try a combo nobody is using in your market and I promise you’ll stand out.
