One of our clients
A story that really stayed with me.
A devoted husband and father, working as a senior executive in the F&B industry in Singapore, was recently diagnosed with end-stage liver cancer.
He is now receiving treatment at a government hospital in Malaysia.
Many people assume that treatment at a government hospital is completely free.
The reality is... it isn't.
While government hospitals provide highly subsidised healthcare, many costs still have to be paid out of pocket.
For his case, his chemotherapy medication is not fully covered. He has to purchase it from the pharmacy himself, costing around **RM7,000 every month**.
On top of that:
• His wife is a foreigner and a full-time homemaker.
• They have four young children.
• Their home loan and car loan are still ongoing.
What breaks my heart the most is this...
Even while undergoing cancer treatment, he still has to travel back to Singapore to work because his family depends on his income.
Life simply doesn't allow him to stop.
To make matters worse, he had heart disease and diabetes years ago, making it impossible for him to qualify for a medical card later on.
Life is unpredictable.
Sometimes it's not that we didn't plan ahead.
It's that by the time we realise we need protection, it's already too late.
People often ask me,
"Isn't treatment at a government hospital free?"
Government hospitals are indeed much more affordable than private hospitals.
But **affordable does not mean completely free.**
Certain medications, specialised treatments, follow-up care, transportation, loss of income, and daily family expenses can still become a heavy financial burden.
Insurance is never about making money.
It's not something you buy because you expect to use it.
It's about protecting your family from financial hardship when life takes an unexpected turn.
I sincerely pray for his recovery.
And I hope every hardworking husband, wife, father and mother who carries the weight of their family can stay healthy and safe.
❤️ If you know someone who still believes that "everything is free at a government hospital," feel free to share this post.
Sometimes, knowing a little more today can save a lot of regret tomorrow.
