🌟 Lateral Flow Assay (LFA) Development & Aptamer Design Workshop 2026 🌟

12–13 August 2026 (Wednesday–Thursday) | The Gen-Sense team from the Malaysia Genome and Vaccine Institute, National Institutes of Biotechnology Malaysia (MGVI-NIBM), in collaboration with our industrial partner, Biogenes Technologies Sdn. Bhd., successfully held the Lateral Flow Assay (LFA) Development & Aptamer Design Workshop 2026 at MGVI-NIBM.

This two-day workshop provided participants with theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience covering the following topics:

🔬 Fundamentals of Lateral Flow Assay (LFA)
🧪 Basic LFA Design and Strip Development
🧬 Introduction to Aptamer Technology
🎯 Biomarker and Target Identification for Aptamer Development
💻 Aptamer Design using APTCAD Software
⚗️ Aptamer–Gold Nanoparticle Conjugation Chemistry

As part of the practical activities, participants also had the opportunity to experience the MGVI-NIBM dry room facility and utilize the LFA development platform, gaining practical exposure to the facilities and technologies that support LFA development and prototyping. The workshop served as a platform for knowledge sharing, technical skills development, and networking among researchers and industry participants in the field of rapid diagnostics and biosensor technology.

We sincerely thank all participants and trainers from MGVI-NIBM and Biogenes Technologies Sdn. Bhd. for their valuable contributions and support in making this workshop a success. We look forward to strengthening industry-research collaboration and advancing innovative LFA and aptamer-based diagnostic technologies. 🤝

🎓 It's Friday, and guess what? Let's Talk Science! 🧬

7 Aug 2026 | This morning, the MGVI-NIBM community gathered once again for another engaging Let's Talk Science (LTS) 2026 session, where researchers, attachment students, and industrial training students came together to share knowledge and scientific discoveries.

This week's session featured our very own scientist, Ms. Norul Amalina Binti Sabri, who presented an insightful talk entitled:

🔬 "Structural Insights into the AlphaFold-generated Model of Leptospiral Lipoprotein Signal Peptidase (LspLep) using Molecular Dynamics Simulations"

The presentation highlighted how computational approaches, including AlphaFold and molecular dynamics simulations, can provide valuable insights into the structural behaviour of proteins, advancing our understanding of Leptospira biology and supporting future research in infectious diseases.

A heartfelt thank you to Ms. Norul Amalina Binti Sabri for sharing her research and expertise, as well as to everyone who attended and contributed to the interactive discussion.

We look forward to seeing you at the next Let's Talk Science session as we continue to foster scientific curiosity, collaboration, and knowledge sharing within the MGVI community.
