Are you concerned about the slipperiness of tiles or flooring you're considering for purchase under specific conditions? Understanding the Australian Standard AS 4586 for the Slip Resistance Classification of new pedestrian surface materials can make a significant difference.

At our laboratory, we specialize in three key appendices of AS 4586:

🌊Appendix A: Wet Pendulum Test
Discover the slip resistance value (SRV) of your floors by employing a pendulum swinging over a wet surface. We evenly spray water on floors or tiles to simulate wet conditions before conducting the test. This method is particularly suitable for assessing the slip resistance of tiles installed outdoors or in wet areas like bathrooms.

🌟Appendix B: Dry Floor Friction Test
This test measures the slip resistance of floors under dry conditions by determining the coefficient of friction (COF). Using a tortus machine with an 800mm total travel distance on the floor, the COF value be generated. This test is perfect for evaluating the slip resistance of existing floor surfaces, such as those found in shopping malls.

🛢️Appendix D: Oil-Wet Inclining Platform Test (Ramp Test)
Often referred to as the ramp test, this assessment measures the point of slips and ramp ratings (R ratings). By having personnel walk back and forth on an inclined surface applied with SAE 10W-30 engine oil, we determine the point of slip. This test is highly suitable for assessing the slip resistance of tiles installed in oily and greasy areas, such as kitchens and automotive shops.
