It’s heartbreaking to see what’s been happening in our schools lately.
A place meant to nurture and protect our children has now become the scene of unthinkable violence.
Months ago, it was the tragic case of bullying.Just last week, a female student was assaulted by her seniors and the act was recorded and shared among peers. And yesterday, another young girl lost her life at the hands of a junior male student.
And these incidents happened on school grounds.
As a parent and an educator, I am very much concerned. What is happening to us? What is happening to our future gen?
Why are our values and empathy fading, even as our digital literacy advances?
We’ve become so focused on grades and achievements that we’ve forgotten what really matters - emotional growth, compassion, respect, integrity.
When I was looking for schools for my son to enrol in next year, I noticed how much emphasis was placed on academics, while emotional growth and values often came second.
Adab, empathy, kindness, respect - these aren’t optional. They are essentials.
And we can’t ignore the role of social media, where algorithms feed young minds harmful and misogynistic content, normalizing violence and desensitizing empathy.
We have to do better.
As parents, educators, and a community , to protect not just our children’s safety, but their hearts and minds too.
