Mooring operation is one of the important tasks performed by the crew members on the ship. This work may seem simple, but if the operation is careless or incorrect, it will create a “death trap” for the ship. We have all heard of such accidents, which even lead to the death of the crew.

Therefore, crew members must understand the workings of deck machinery and systems and cargo handling equipment and take adequate precautions to ensure the safety of individuals and others when mooring on deck.

Recent incidents have demonstrated the potentially serious consequences of a lack of effective maintenance that can pose serious risks to the safe and operation of vessels.

Marine navigation is planning, managing and directing a vessel's voyage. The practice of marine navigation involves good seamanship. professional knowledge and judgement. the application of science and technology.

Marine vessels rely on an S-band and X-band radar system for navigation as it can detect targets and display information on the screen such as the ship's distance from the ground, any floating objects (island, rocks, iceberg, etc.)), other vessels and obstacles to avoid collision.

Wind, currents and tides – any of these can affect the movement of the ship. Excessive strain can be put on mooring lines and this may cause them to break. Pay particular attention to the snap back zones and vessel movement during mooring operations in these conditions. Gusting wind can also knock a person off balance.

Safety Management System in Vessel Operation
This system is designed to prevent maritime accidents between vessels in operation. By displaying the locations of ships, vessels and buoys on the monitor, the situation in the working area can be observed remotely and supervised from the site offices, or on the vessels. This information is stored in an in-house data server and can be distributed to PCs in different site offices, vessels or mobile phones at any time.
