Topic of the week: understand about the five categories of Covid-19 severity

Coronavirus disease 2019 or COVID-19 is caused by a newly discovered coronavirus, SARS-CoV-2. The Malaysian government has planned to procure COVID-19 vaccine through multiple agencies and companies in order to vaccinate the population. Although Malaysia has claimed that about 73.1 precent of population has received at least one dose of vaccine, there are still a massive number of deaths reaching 26k up-to-date. A person with fully vaccinated still can be infected but with lower risks of getting serious effects which normally categorised as stage one and two.

Therefore is important to understand the severity of each clinical category of Covid-19 in order to always monitor ourselves with self testing kits or go for RT-PCR test if you have in contact with suspected individuals or any symptoms arise.

Cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of death all over the world. Myocardial infarction is commonly caused by the blockage of the coronary artery that prevents the blood flow. Therefore, significant effort is being devoted in developing alternative therapeutic approaches for cardiac tissue regeneration.

In this regards, cardiac patch regenerative medicine holds promise to repair infarcted cardiac tissue upon heart attack. In this research, biomimetic nano-P(3HB-co-4HB)-RGD scaffold is designed as a promising candidate to be efficiently developed for heart repair as potential cardiac tissue engineering and regenerative medicine.

CRISPR-Cas9 is a unique technology that enables geneticists and medical researchers to edit parts of the genome by removing, adding or altering sections of the DNA sequence.
