What are “essential” services or least affected businesses in the property-related industry during a pandemic?

Without a doubt, the COVID-19 pandemic affected various industries. Aside from these essential services such as logistics, delivery, and medical supplies, what other services related to the property industry are essential? The pandemic did not affect these businesses as much as others.

Condominium and apartment tenants need to pay various fees for maintenance, security, firefighting, lifts, water, and more. These charges are to ensure the tenants’ safety in times of emergency or any critical period.

In fact, special works such as frequent disinfection and cleaning to adopt stricter safety measures during any Movement Control Order require more labour, thus increasing expenses.

It is difficult to replace the management and maintenance of these multi-storey buildings with AI machines or robots. We foresee building managers and maintenance workers becoming more dependent on technology but never replacing their roles. In fact, the industry is suffering from a lack of workforce. Business owners must provide more training and impart better knowledge to their workers.

Therefore, we consider the property management industry an essential service. Business owners, trainers, and workers in this field must constantly improve their skills from time to time to avoid being left behind now and in the future.
