𝙉𝙖𝙨𝙞 𝙇𝙚𝙢𝙖𝙠 - 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙣𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙖𝙡 𝙖𝙡𝙡-𝙩𝙞𝙢𝙚 𝙛𝙖𝙫𝙤𝙪𝙧𝙞𝙩𝙚 🇲🇾

Being a melting pot of cultures, Malaysia has established itself as a foodie’s paradise. When someone asks, “What is one of the most attractive things in Malaysia?” The answer is undoubtedly ’Nasi Lemak’

Nasi lemak, one of the most versatile meals in Malaysia, is considered the country’s greatest culinary achievement. This simple yet delicious meal is widely available across the entire country of Malaysia, from the bustling metropolises to the outlying villages.

So basically, Nasi Lemak is a dish of rice cooked in coconut milk and served with a side of chili paste, also known as sambal, along with peanuts, eggs, fried anchovies and cucumber as condiments. All of these components of Nasi Lemak make it one of the most delicious yet fulfilling food.

The word “Nasi Lemak” also translates to “rich rice,” referring to the extra richness of the coconut cream-cooked rice as opposed to plain water-cooked rice. Nasi Lemak is traditionally wrapped in a banana leaf as this way of packaging leads to a neater and more attractive meal.

𝘽𝙖𝙠 𝙆𝙪𝙩 𝙏𝙚𝙝 - 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙩𝙧𝙖𝙙𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙖𝙡 𝘾𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙚𝙨𝙚 𝙛𝙤𝙤𝙙

Bak k*t teh - ‘Meat Bone Tea’ is believed to have originated from China’s Fujian province. The introduction of the dish to Malaysia is attributed to Hokkien immigrants who moved to this region in the 19th century.

The preparation of Bak K*t Teh involves simmering pork ribs in a broth of herbs and spices, including star anise, cinnamon, cloves, dang gui, fennel seeds, and garlic, for several hours. Despite its complex flavours, the dish is often enjoyed for breakfast or lunch, served with rice and youtiao (Chinese doughnuts) for dipping.

Bak K*t Teh is more than just a dish in Malaysia; it’s a cultural symbol. It represents the fusion of diverse culinary traditions and is a favourite comfort food for many Malaysians. It’s also a popular dish during festivals and family gatherings, symbolizing unity and togetherness.

Kopitiam culture holds a significant place in the hearts of Malaysians. Kopitiam serves as more than just a dining establishment, it functions as a community hub where people gather to unwind and socialize with one another.

The Kopitiam culture in Malaysia traces its roots back to the early 20th century when Chinese immigrants brought their culinary and social customs over.

“Kopitiams”, a term derived from the Malay language and Hokkien dialects where “kopi” means coffee and “tiam” means shop, represents the heart of Malaysian’s coffee culture. Head to any kopitiam, and you will be enveloped by the inviting aroma of kopi featuring menus that boast a variety of options.

𝘽𝙖𝙩𝙪 𝘾𝙖𝙫𝙚𝙨 - 𝟮𝟳𝟮 𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙥𝙨 𝙩𝙤 𝙥𝙪𝙧𝙞𝙛𝙮 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙝𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙩

Famously known for its colourful stairs with 272 steps to be exact, and a beautiful 𝙃𝙞𝙣𝙙𝙪 𝙏𝙚𝙢𝙥𝙡𝙚, Batu Caves is a must-visit anytime you find yourself in the area.

Over 400 million years old, these limestones were organically formed, creating what is famously known as Batu Caves today. The temple, which is nestled in the heart of the cave, was built in the year 1920.

For over a century now, Hindus from all over have come together during festivals to celebrate and pray as a community. From its magnificently-built shrines and statues set against a captivating background of limestone hills, Batu Caves is definitely a sight to behold, and a destination not to be missed.

Malaysians have plenty of pastimes, but what we love the most is a good adventure. And for those whose idea of an adventure includes nature and food, you’ll be glad to know that you can combine the two at BBQ Lamb KL Kemensah in Ampang.

Located in the hills of Kampung Kemensah, this restaurant offers diners a one-of-a-kind dining experience outdoors. And we’re not talking about street food-style dining – you can soak your feet in a cool river while dining on Western-style grilled meats and Canadian lobsters here.
