Top tip (1) for technical report writing: Depersonalise the report.

It is an easy mistake to make when writing reports, to explain what "we" did. Since the writer naturally wants to take ownership of the work and convey that to the reader. Relax, your name should be at the top of the page.

Remember that "I" or "we" didn't do it. It was nothing to do with "us". It wasn't "our" discovery. This idea isn't "mine". These are examples of the most common pronouns misused in reports. Refrain from using these pronouns and your work will be professional.

For example:

"We noticed that the flask of water boiled at 100 degrees centigrade."

Becomes:

"The flask of water boils at 100 degrees centigrade."

I dislike participles of the verb; using 'ing' as a suffix to the verb makes the text over complicated. For example:

She is running daily.

In my opinion, is better written as:

She runs daily.

I think the use of 'ing' should be avoided.
