On September 9, 1947, Harvard operators found a moth trapped in the Mark II computer. They taped it into the logbook with the note: "First actual case of bug being found". The term "bug" was already engineering slang for defect. But Grace Hopper made the moth story famous โ and accidentally became the face of debugging history.
