In many parts of the world, teaching takes place under increasingly difficult circumstances. Teachers are often at the frontline of helping the next generation understand and navigate a changing world.
This World Teachersโ Day, ISTIC joins UNESCO in recognising teachers not only for the knowledge they impart, but also for the important role they play in building the resilience and capabilities of their communities.
For countries across the Global South, strengthening the capacity of teachers is an important part of preparing for the science, technology and innovation challenges of the future. As new technologies emerge and global challenges become more complex, teachers need the knowledge, tools and opportunities to continuously learn, adapt and bring these developments into their classrooms and communities.
Through our capacity-building programmes and partnerships, ISTIC (International Science, Technology & Innovation Centre) under the auspices of UNESCO works with educators across the Global South to strengthen knowledge and skills in areas such as artificial intelligence, digital technologies, climate action and science communication. Our aim is not simply to transfer knowledge, but to strengthen local capabilities so that educators can respond to the needs and realities of their own communities.
Because building STI capacity begins with people. And teachers are among those who carry that capacity forward, from one generation to the next.
