The Bidayuh are one of Sarawak’s oldest indigenous communities, carrying with them a culture deeply rooted in the rainforest. For generations, they have lived beside the forest and depended upon it as both shelter and sustenance. The forest was, and remains, the source of life itself.
They drank from its rivers and springs, and gathered whatever the land could offer—from fruits and wild vegetables to river prawns, birds, and game. Even the materials used to build their homes were drawn from the surrounding trees. Yet the forest gave them far more than material survival. It nurtured a rich spiritual culture and an inner world shaped by reverence for nature. Their ancient symbols and totems reflect a people whose beliefs are intertwined with mystery, resilience, optimism, and a profound respect for the natural world.
To encounter Melton’s paintings is to step into an inner landscape woven from colour, movement, and memory. His abstract forms and flowing lines remain inseparable from the forests that shaped both his life and the spirit of his community. Standing before his works, one almost hears the rainforest calling—inviting us to come closer, to embrace, to understand, and to lose ourselves freely within its vitality and joy.
Here, perhaps, we are reminded how to return to ourselves: to feel more deeply, to accept who we are, and to become more fully human.

比达友族，是砂拉越一个拥有古老文化的部落族群。他们世世代代以森林为家，傍林而居。
森林，便是他们生活中的衣食父母。
他们喝的是深林中的河水与泉水，吃的是森林里一切可以果腹之物——从瓜果、野菜，到鸟虫、河虾，乃至虎等动物；建屋的用材，亦取之于所依傍的林木。
然而，森林赋予他们的不仅是物质上的丰足，更重要的，是丰富而绚烂的精神文化与心灵护养。
他们拥有属于自己的古老图腾，怀抱着对大自然的敬仰与崇敬，从而使精神世界涵养出一种神秘而乐观豁达的气质。
观赏他的作品，那一幅幅由抽象色彩、形态与线条交融而成的内心绘图，始终离不开滋养他生命与族群的森林元素。
面对他的画作，你仿佛能听见森林在呼唤——它在招呼你去靠近、去拥抱、去理解，去快乐而放纵地沉浸其中。
在这里，你可以做回自己、感受自己、接纳自己，让自己成为一个更好的自己。
