The Malaysian Timber Certification Council (MTCC) is participating in the PEFC Forest Forum 2026 and PEFC General Assembly, held in Türkiye from 11 to 15 May 2026. MTCC is represented at the event by its Director of Communication and Marketing, Mr. Muhammad Hasif Azizan, and Senior Executive, Chain of Custody, Ms. Adibah Aris.
On Day 1 (11 May), MTCC participated in the Marketing, Communication and Advocacy Working Group meeting, contributing to discussions on strengthening advocacy within PEFC, enhancing alignment between technical outputs and communications, and improving regional visibility, including for Asia.
On Day 2 (12 May), Mr. Hasif presented MTCC’s latest developments during the Members Marketplace session. The presentation underscored continued progress in reinforcing international confidence in the Malaysian Timber Certification Scheme (MTCS), including the decision by the Government of the Netherlands to maintain its recognition under the Dutch Timber Procurement Policy.
MTCC also showcased Malaysia’s first PEFC Project Certification involving the revitalisation of the Petaling Street Archway, demonstrating the application of MTCS/PEFC-certified timber in supporting sustainable urban development and climate-smart construction.
On Day 3 (13 May), MTCC participated in the 34th PEFC General Assembly in Istanbul, Türkiye, represented by Mr. Hasif and Ms. Adibah as part of the delegation engaging in voting and formal proceedings.
MTCC also contributed to the Asia-Pacific Regional Hub session, where members exchanged updates within their respective national governing bodies. MTCC shared key developments on Forest Management and Chain of Custody certification status, PEFC EUDR Due Diligence System adoption, export trends, alignment of the MTCS Sustainable Forest Management standard with PEFC ST 1003:2024, progress on Malaysia’s first PEFC Project Certification, as well as the publication of the revised Complaints Handling and Dispute Resolution Mechanism Guidelines.
The session also reflected broader regional developments, with members noting increasing emphasis on EUDR compliance, carbon and ecosystem services, green building, sustainable packaging, and biomass-related certification, highlighting the growing relevance of PEFC certification across the Asia-Pacific region.
MTCC remains committed to active engagement within PEFC platforms and to contributing to the continued strengthening of credible, internationally recognised forest certification systems.
