“What is Ice Bucket Challenge (IBC)”?
The IBC for MND was a phenomenal social media campaign that swept the world in 2014. It was initiated by Pat Quinn, a former athlete and Pete Frates, a former Boston College captain. Both men are living with Motor Neurone Disease (MND) in the US. When Peter Frates posted his challenge online, the IBC quickly went viral.
In conjunction with MND Malaysia’s 10th year Anniversary, MND Malaysia & Asia Television co-organised the IBC event to raise awareness about MND.
MND is a disease which the nerve cells – neurones – controlling the muscles that enable us to move around, speak, breathe and swallow, fail to work normally. With no nerves to activate them, the muscles gradually weaken and waste. The patterns of weakness vary from person to person.
