The introduction of the ABCD strategy by the Minister of Entrepreneur and Cooperatives Development (Kementerian Pembangunan Usahawan dan Koperasi (KUSKOP), YB Steven Sim Chee Keong 沈志强, marks a pivotal turn for Malaysian SMEs. The Ministry's message is clear: businesses must transition from being cost centres to becoming high-value centres.

This shift moves beyond policy, targeting a fundamental change in how we scale. By focusing on productivity and reducing bureaucratic friction, the Ministry is removing long-standing barriers that have hindered local brands from achieving regional leadership.

Malaysia is building the AI factories of the future.

With RM163.6 billion in digital investments in 2024 alone and RM3.29 billion locked in for AI in 1H 2025, the momentum behind Malaysia’s digital economy is real. By 2030, another RM169.2 billion is projected to be invested in AI and data centres.

Into this momentum comes both scale and access.

Johor is now one of only five NVIDIA Cloud Partners globally, anchoring a RM20.6 billion plan to train large language models and power ASEAN’s AI economy. Meanwhile, AMD is giving away 100,000 hours of GPU cloud access to local researchers, levelling the playing field for those with ideas but not infrastructure.

This dual strategy is powerful, a world-class capability at scale, and grassroots access to accelerate innovation.

Earlier this month, the Global Data Center Report 2025 named the Singapore–Johor corridor an emerging global AI hub, projecting a combined data centre capacity of over 3,500 MW by 2030, further validating Johor’s strategic role.

But the real test? Whether these resources become catalysts for all Malaysians and not just major hubs or elite institutions.

If educators, small businesses, and young innovators from every corner of the country (not just the big cities) can tap into this wave, Malaysia won’t just join the global AI race. It could set the pace.

The ambition is clear. The inclusion is the challenge.
