Insiden kemalangan pembinaan menjadi peringatan yang menyedihkan bahawa keselamatan di tempat kerja tidak boleh dipandang ringan. Setiap kemalangan, terutamanya yang melibatkan kehilangan nyawa, mengingatkan kita tentang satu hakikat penting: prosedur keselamatan diwujudkan untuk melindungi nyawa, bukan untuk melambatkan kerja.

Sebagai profesional keselamatan, misi kita jelas — setiap individu yang datang bekerja mesti dapat pulang ke rumah dengan selamat.

Industri pembinaan dan sektor berisiko tinggi memerlukan pematuhan yang ketat terhadap piawaian keselamatan. Penilaian risiko, penyeliaan yang berkesan, prosedur kerja selamat serta penggunaan Peralatan Perlindungan Diri (PPE) bukan sekadar keperluan peraturan, tetapi amalan yang mampu menyelamatkan nyawa.

The recent construction accident in Simunjan reported on March 8 is a painful reminder that safety in the workplace must never be taken lightly. Every incident, especially those involving loss of life, reinforces a critical truth: safety procedures exist to protect people, not to slow down work.

As safety professionals, our mission is clear—everyone who comes to work must be able to return home safely.

Construction and high-risk industries require strict adherence to safety standards. Risk assessments, proper supervision, safe work procedures, and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) are not merely regulatory requirements; they are life-saving practices.

A strong safety culture means:
• Management prioritizes safety over speed or cost
• Workers are trained and empowered to stop unsafe work
• Hazards are identified and controlled before work begins
• Safety rules are followed consistently, not only during inspections

When safety is ignored, the consequences can affect families, communities, and entire organizations.

Let this incident be a reminder to all employers, supervisors, and workers: prevention is always better than investigation.
