BOSIET stands for Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training. It is a mandatory safety training course for people who work or travel to offshore oil and gas installations, such as drilling rigs, production platforms, and offshore wind farms (depending on employer requirements).
The course is designed to prepare workers for emergencies offshore and typically covers:
Safety induction – Understanding offshore hazards, rules, and safe work practices.
Sea survival – Using life jackets, life rafts, and survival techniques in the water.
Helicopter safety – Safe boarding, emergency procedures, and escape from a submerged helicopter (often called HUET – Helicopter Underwater Escape Training).
Firefighting – Basic firefighting techniques and use of fire extinguishers.
First aid and emergency response – Basic emergency procedures and rescue awareness.
