Bowmore 18 Year Old
 (70cl, 43%)

A comparatively recent release from Bowmore, the 18 year old was launched in January of 2007 to replace the 17 year old. A perfumed, fruity offering from the Islay distillery.

Nose: Pungent, citrus. Stewing fruit, hints of damp wood and a very soft smoke.

Palate: Spirity at first, then gives way to perfume, fruit, plum jam. A good sweetness, peat smoke, grapey.

Finish: Seville marmalade, blossom, dark peat.

Passport Scotch Blended Scotch Whisky 700ml

The blend recipe for Passport was developed by Chivas Brothers’ blender Jimmy Lang during the 1960s. Stylistically, Passport is light on the nose, with grain, vanilla and fruit, leading to a palate of cut grass, rich fruit and malt.

Nose: Initial lively fruity notes of green apples and zesty orange give way to creamy vanilla and chocolate fudge with a hint of roasted chestnuts in the background.

Palate: Malty sweetness intertwines with orange marmalade, honeydew melon and charred pineapple, balanced with liquorice and sweet pecan nuts.

Finish: Sweet and fruity, with a wisp of bonfire smoke.

Rock Island(70cl, 46.8%)

Douglas Laing's Rock Island bottles the epitome of the Scottish Islands. The blend marries a plethora of Island whiskies, with malts from Islay, Arran, Orkney and Jura. The whisky has been bottled at a rather specific 46.8% ABV, and of course without colouring or chillfiltration. If you think this sounds all a bit familiar, the blended malt was previously dubbed 'Rock Oyster', though the name was changed because it turns out there's an awful lot of people who don't like oysters. Not to worry, it's the exact same great maritime whisky!

Nose: Wind-swept beaches, coastal peat and a hint of ash, complimented by touches of green fruit.

Palate: Yet more sea breeze, with oat cake crumbs, growing spicy notes of cracked black pepper and a deft whiff of peat smoke. Hints of vanilla here and there.

Finish: Salinity lasts on the finish along with peppery warmth.

Dalmore 12 Year Old (70cl, 40%)

Launched in late 2008 to replace the previous 12 year old, this single malt from the Dalmore distillery is a toasty, coffee-rich dram with beautifully spice notes and a thick mouthfeel. Very rich for a 12 year old.

Nose: A warm coffee house in Seattle; roasting beans, the oily nuttiness in a fine espresso, there are little notes of malt and cereal and butter from the pastry counter with rich orange from the fruit bowl on the counter.

Palate: Notes of Seville marmalade and triple sec with winter spices and fruitcake. Zesty cocoa and milk chocolate.

Finish: Medium, oranges.

Johnnie Walker Blue Label

 (70cl, 40%

Johnnie Walker Blue Label is the rarest whisky from this world famous brand – only one in ten thousand casks makes the grade. Rich and slightly smoky, it's made up of some very old malt and grain Scotch whiskies.

Nose: Fragrant with good body. Notes of oak, crisp spice, dried fruit, pastries. Berry fruits, aniseed, hints of cedar, a touch of spice and citrus.
Palate: Supple and balanced. Good toffee and hints of very wistful smoke. Chocolate, hints of grass and a good hit of malt.

Finish: Floral, oaky, good length, urged on by a plume of very well-kept, highland style smoke. Dried fruit, spice, honey.

Overall: One of the ultimate premium blends, Blue Label is a legend in its own right and will continue to be.

The Glenlivet 12 Year Old
 (70cl, 40%)

Excellent 12 year old single malt from the Glenlivet Distillery in Speyside, which enjoys its maturation in both European and American oak casks. It's an immensely popular expression which disappeared from shelves in 2015, but has since returned! A great example of the character of Glenlivet's whisky, boasting a bounty of orchard fruit, fragrant florals and honeyed malt notes carried on a creamy mouth feel.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Apricot, pineapple, greengages, citrus blossom and toasted teacake.

Palate: Buttery and vanilla-rich, though still packing all the bright fruit notes from the nose.

Finish: A soft crackle of oaky spice and malt, plus a hint of red apple juiciness.

Gran Sasso Montepulciano d’Abruzzo 750ml

Wine of Italy. Made for early drinking, this wine is packed with juicy fruit characters – cherry, sour cherry and blackberry with an intense balsamic note lingering at the finish. The palate is full bodied with good, supple tannins. This wine is well balanced with good structure and a long finish. Alcohol content, ABV (13%).

Beer, when consumed in moderation, may offer some health benefits. Here are a few potential benefits of beer:

1. May reduce the risk of heart disease: Drinking moderate amounts of beer has been associated with a lower risk of heart disease. The flavonoids in beer may help reduce the risk of heart disease by lowering levels of LDL (bad) cholesterol and increasing levels of HDL (good) cholesterol.

2. May reduce the risk of stroke: Studies have suggested that moderate beer consumption may lower the risk of stroke. This could be due to the polyphenols in beer that have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.

3. May help improve bone health: Beer contains silicon, a mineral that is important for bone health. Drinking beer in moderation may help improve bone density and reduce the risk of osteoporosis.

4. May improve kidney health: Studies have suggested that moderate beer consumption may reduce the risk of kidney stones. This could be due to the high water content of beer, which helps to flush out the kidneys.

5. May lower the risk of certain cancers: Some studies have suggested that moderate beer consumption may lower the risk of certain cancers, such as prostate cancer.

It's important to note, however, that excessive alcohol consumption can have a negative impact on health and should be avoided. It's recommended that women have no more than one drink per day and men have no more than two drinks per day.

Hendrick's Gin (70cl, 41.4%)

Hendrick’s is something of a household name. Perhaps you've heard of it? This terrific Scottish gin is made using two different stills - the Bennett stillsteeps its botanicals overnight before distillation, while the Carter-Head has its botanicals in a basket up in the still neck, steaming them gently. It features the likes of juniper, cubeb berries, elderflower, chamomile, angelica, lemon peel, orange peel, coriander, yarrow and orris, alongside an infusion of cucumber and rose petal. If you're making a G&T with this, it just has to be garnished with a ribbon of cucumber.

Tasting Note.

Nose: Big, creamy aromas right off the bat, with a little zesty citrus, juniper, rose petal jelly and cucumber.
Palate: Astoundingly fresh notes of cucumber with juniper, oak, a touch more citrus and vanilla. Creamy and savoury.
Finish: A long, refreshing, floral finish.
