Original 1855 First Growths

1) Château Lafite-Rothschild (Pauillac)
-Elegant, refined, and aromatic with cassis and cedar.

2) Château Latour (Pauillac)
-Powerful, structured, and long-lived; strong tannins and concentration.

3) Château Margaux (Margaux)
-Perfumed, silky, and refined; often described as the most "feminine" of the First Growths.

4) Château Haut-Brion (Pessac-Léognan, Graves)
-Smoky, earthy, and elegant — with both power and finesse.

5) Château Mouton Rothschild (Pauillac)

It is a Bordeaux-style red blend created through a historic collaboration between two of the world’s most influential winemaking families — Robert Mondavi from the United States and Baron Philippe de Rothschild from France (owner of Château Mouton Rothschild). The joint venture was publicly announced in 1980.

Their shared goal was to create a single wine that combined Old-World elegance with New-World power and fruit expression — a wine that could stand among the world’s finest.

The name Opus One reflects the founders’ belief that this wine would be their masterpiece — a single, harmonious composition that expresses the best of both worlds. The label features the silhouettes of both founders, symbolizing unity and partnership.

Located in the heart of the Margaux appellation, it has held its title as a Third Growth in the 1855 Classification for over a century and a half.

Thanks to ladies and gentlemen for coming to Château Malartic-Lagravière Wine Dinner. Whether you’re a seasoned collector or simply someone who appreciates a good glass of Bordeaux, tonight is about sharing stories, flavors, and a bit of magic from one of the most celebrated estates in Graves.

Château Malartic-Lagravière traces its roots back to the 18th century and carries a name inspired by Admiral Comte de Malartic—a naval officer and explorer. The estate today is one of only six classified growths in Bordeaux awarded for both red and white wines, a rare distinction that speaks volumes about its terroir and craftsmanship.

Pay attention to how the Malartic-Lagravière Blanc lifts the notes in the seafood course, or how a mature vintage of the red reveals its layers alongside a rich main. This is more than a meal—it’s a dialogue between wine, food, and place.
