When I probed deeper, she admitted it:
"I'm afraid of being criticised."
And I understood that completely.
Criticism stings especially when you're giving your best.
But here's what I shared with her 👇
When you get kicked in the rear it means you're out in front.
Criticism is not a sign that you're doing something wrong.
It's often a sign that you're doing something that matters.
So the question is never how to avoid criticism.
The question is how to handle it well.
Maxwell gives us a powerful process:
Know yourself deeply so criticism doesn't destabilise you.
Be willing to change what is genuinely valid.
Accept your imperfections honestly.
Then forget yourself and refocus on the people you serve and the goal ahead.
Because here's the truth about criticism and leadership:
Leaders who are paralysedby criticism become followers.
Leaders who learn from it become stronger.
The goal is not to be liked.
The goal is to lead well.
