Happy Li Chun 2026 (立春)
Annual Afflictions & Simple Luck-Boosting Tips
In Feng Shui and Chinese metaphysics (风水 / 玄学), many annual calculations and home setups are based on the solar calendar’s seasonal nodes (the 24 solar terms 二十四节气) rather than only the Lunar New Year. Li Chun 立春 (Start of Spring) is the first of the 24 solar terms and is often regarded as the moment when the yearly qi-field begins to change—meaning that once Li Chun 立春 arrives, the “new year energy” is considered to have begun.
1) Li Chun timing in 2026 and why it matters
In 2026, Li Chun 立春 begins on Wednesday, February 4, 2026 at 4:04 a.m., traditionally classified as the Yín hour 寅时. Although this moment still falls around the 17th day of the 12th lunar month 农历十二月十七(腊月十七) in the Snake year 乙巳年(蛇年), many Feng Shui and metaphysics systems treat the year as changing at Li Chun 立春.
Because Li Chun 立春 arrives earlier—still within the Snake year’s lunar 12th month—those born after Li Chun 立春 are typically regarded, in this framework, as belonging to the new zodiac year 马年, and the new year’s Heavenly Stem & Earthly Branch cycle 天干地支.
From this exact moment onward, the operational cycle is considered the Bǐngwǔ year 丙午年(马年): the yearly governing influence shifts, major “annual energies” change positions, and the Flying Star Feng Shui system chart 飞星盘 / 紫白飞星 rotates accordingly.
2) Key annual Feng Shui influences and directional shifts
After Li Chun 立春, several of the most influential annual Feng Shui factors are considered to have already “moved into place,” so it’s recommended to take note early—especially if you plan annual home adjustments.
Grand Duke (Tàisuì) 太岁: moves to the South 午方(正南 / 午位)
• When aligned with auspicious influences, it may bring support and smoother progress.
• If it clashes with personal unfavorable factors or is disturbed, it can indicate disputes, conflict, or legal/administrative trouble.
Year Breaker (Suìpò) 岁破: moves to the North 子方(正北 / 子位)
• Often associated with loss, depletion, and disputes/penalties.
Three Sha (Sānshā) 三煞: moves to the NORTH - Hài–Zǐ–Chǒu sectors 亥–子–丑方
This combination broadly covers most of the North, and may also touch parts of the Northwest / Northeast depending on how a space is measured and segmented.
Traditionally linked with financial loss, injury, bloodshed incidents, theft/robbery—especially when the area is disturbed (e.g., renovation, drilling, heavy knocking).
• Hài 亥 = Robbery Sha 劫煞
• Zǐ 子 = Disaster Sha 灾煞
• Chǒu 丑 = Year Sha 岁煞 (some lineages/schools also write this as 年煞)
Purple-White Flying Stars 紫白飞星
• #1 White 一白(贪狼星) enters the Center 中宫(中宫)
• #5 Yellow 五黄(廉贞星 / 五黄煞) moves to the South (Lì Palace 离宫 / 正南)
o Associated with accidents, harm, sudden illness, mishaps, and is especially unfavorable when “activated” by movement or renovation.
• #2 Black Illness Star 二黑(巨门星 / 病符星) flies to the Northwest (Qián Palace 乾宫 / 西北)
o If the Northwest 西北 / 乾位 has strong “activity triggers” (construction, frequent slamming doors, heavy vibration), it may stir illness-energy themes.
Because these shifts take effect at Li Chun 立春, those who plan annual Feng Shui adjustments are advised not to wait for Lunar New Year. Instead, begin your Horse-year 马年(丙午) protective and harmonizing setup from February 4—such as pacifying Tàisuì 安太岁, remedying Suìpò 化岁破, reducing Three Sha 三煞 influence, and neutralizing the #5 Yellow 五黄—so that if unexpected situations arise later, you won’t feel unprepared.
3) Three simple Li Chun 立春 luck-boosting practices
Alongside annual remedies, here are three traditional yet practical and gentle ways used by common folks in olden days to “welcome the new qi” at Li Chun 立春, adapted for contemporary times:
1) Welcome auspicious qi at the moment of Li Chun 立春纳气 / 迎春纳福
Around the Li Chun 立春 time, close all doors and windows first, then open only the door/window that corresponds to the year’s more auspicious directions, as a symbolic way to receive fresh spring qi. The auspicious directions mentioned are: East 东方 and Southeast 东南—to “catch” the first wave of spring energy (often expressed as “Three Yang bringing prosperity 三阳开泰”).
2) After breakfast: walk barefoot on grass to absorb Earth qi 赤脚踩草地、接地气(地气)
In the morning after breakfast, bring your family to an open grassy area and walk barefoot, receiving the “Heaven–Earth–Human” qi (天地人三才之气) and refreshing the family’s overall momentum. 20–30 minutes is sufficient (do so safely and hygienically).
3) Afternoon sun: air and sun-dry bedding and clothing 晒被子 / 晒衣物 / 晒太阳
In the afternoon when the sun is bright, place bedding, clothes, or even sofa cushions/pillows outdoors to sun-dry for about two hours. Symbolically, it aligns with “winter departing, spring arriving; yin receding, yang growing” (冬去春来、阴退阳生), and it also freshens the home environment.
Wishing everyone a smooth, prosperous new cycle as spring begins—may you avoid pitfalls, invite blessings, and start the year with strong momentum.
