Did you know that in 2012, there was another study in Malaysia that adopted the same economic valuation methodology as the TEEB Survey?

The Conservation Of Biological Diversity Through Improved Forest Planning Tools Project (CBioD Project) implemented by FRIM asked Malaysians if they were willing to pay through their water bills to stop logging and poaching in the Belum-Temengor forest.

ℹ️The TEEB Survey aims to identify the extent to which residents of Malaysia and tourists appreciate and value the Protected Areas (PA) of Peninsular Malaysia.

The project team focuses on the three largest protected areas in Peninsular Malaysia: Taman Negara National Park, Royal Belum State Park and Endau-Rompin National Park before projecting the site-level economic valuation results to reflect the economic value of the entire terrestrial protected area system in Peninsular Malaysia.

The survey contains a scenario which sets you up for a payment ladder and a choice experiment. Your choices to these questions help us determine your willingness to pay for the protection of these areas, and they act as a proxy to how much value you assign to our natural forests and biodiversity! This is a common economic valuation method in the field of environmental economics.

Tourists to the parks above belong to one of four (4) target groups for the survey, and the remaining three are the local communities surrounding the parks, the Orang Asli communities within and surrounding the parks as well as tourists to the parks.

Hi everyone! As part of the PA Financing project, the TEEB Tourist Survey is conducted on behalf of UNDP Malaysia and Jabatan PERHILITAN Semenanjung Malaysia.

We would like to find out how visitors to Royal Belum State Park, Taman Negara and Endau-Rompin National Park appreciate the economic benefits and value of Protected Areas and the potential impacts of biodiversity loss.

Your response will help us develop better policy-level support for the financing of protecting Malaysia’s natural forests from logging and poaching.It also provides important information for the future planning of Malaysia’s biodiversity, forests and natural assets.

All information provided will be kept strictly confidential. Only aggregated data will be used for policy analysis. The questionnaire will take roughly 10-15 minutes to complete.

Have you ever visited Taman Negeri Royal Belum, Taman Negara or Endau-Rompin National Park? If you have visited any of these 3 parks in Malaysia, we're inviting you to participate in our survey:

The survey is open to all visitors of the 3 parks that are 18 years old and above. You can answer our survey in either English or Bahasa Malaysia.
