C&G Analytica and the ASEAN Working Group on Climate Change (AWGCC) jointly organised the 4th ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community Research and Development Forum on "Strengthening Resilience with Private Sector Engagement and Nature-Based Solutions".
C&G Analytica undertakes the assignment as Advisor for the ASCC Climate Change Research and Development Platforms project. The focus is on 4 specific thematic areas, namely:
1. Data Management on CC adaptation and mitigation
2. Enhancing access to climate finance
3. Strengthening private sector engagement
4. Aligning priorities on nature-based solutions and opportunities.
The first forum covered 2 topics (Data Management and Climate Finance) and took place in March 2022.
In the second forum (12 Sept 2022), private sector engagement and nature-based solutions (NbS) are two critical areas identified by the ASEAN State of Climate Change Report (ASCCR) to ensure that climate change mitigation and adaptation - the foundations of climate change efforts - can be achieved.
Despite the participation of ASEAN sectoral bodies, the forum was attended by several experienced speakers representing various international organisations (ADB, CABI, CIRAD and ISEAS) and educational institutions (UTM-Malaysia and Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University-Japan). The first session of the forum (Strengthening Private Sector Engagement) were moderated by Prof. Dr. VGR Chandran and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Keshminder Singh, while the second session (Nature-based Solutions) were moderated by Ir. Dr. Sanjayan and Dr. Sarpaneswaran.
In a nutshell, the speakers and participants shared their knowledge, experiences and ideas to complement the ASEAN initiatives to improve climate conditions and achieve the net zero 2050 targets.
