Sebelum menempah latihan thermography, jangan berhenti pada tajuk kursus. Nyatakan kerja yang pasukan perlu boleh lakukan selepas sesi.

Brief yang berguna menerangkan peranan dan pengalaman peserta; kamera dan aset yang akan digunakan; keadaan beban, akses selamat dan penyeliaan; latihan praktikal atau classroom fallback; serta bukti yang mesti boleh direkod dan diulang selepas trainer beredar.

Hasil praktikal patut jelas: sediakan kamera dengan betul, scan dalam batas selamat, buat perbandingan yang adil, kenal corak biasa, rekod finding yang boleh diambil tindakan dan tahu bila perlu escalate.

Setahun sekali ialah titik mula — bukan jawapan untuk semua switchboard.

Kekerapan thermography patut berubah ikut dua perkara: keadaan peralatan dan akibat jika ia gagal. Mulakan dengan kitaran tahunan untuk aset yang stabil. Pendekkan sela apabila peralatan sudah berusia, panas atau kotor; beban itu kritikal; masih ada finding terbuka; atau corak beban berubah.

Selepas repair, perubahan beban besar, kerja switching atau simptom seperti trip, panel panas dan bau penebat, jangan tunggu tarikh seterusnya. Apa pun jadualnya, scan mesti dibuat di bawah beban yang mewakili operasi.

Satu survey ialah snapshot. Survey berulang pada titik, kaedah dan konteks beban yang setanding membina trend.

‘No shutdown required’ can be true for the screening layer—and still be incomplete.

Thermography can screen accessible electrical targets under representative load. On MV switchgear, TEV and airborne ultrasound can screen for discharge indications while the equipment remains energised and closed.

The result is evidence for prioritisation, not proof of the exact cause and not confirmation that the asset is healthy. Insulation-resistance testing, relay injection, contact-resistance measurement or mechanical servicing may still require a controlled outage.

Screen live first. Use the findings to target any offline diagnosis or corrective work.

A routine visual inspection by a competent person is valuable, but sight stops at the enclosure. Visible cues such as damage, corrosion, moisture, obstruction, labels and cable-entry condition still matter. Developing heat — and, on medium-voltage equipment, possible discharge activity — may require instrumented screening, with each method used only for the evidence it can provide.

Thermography needs an appropriate view of the target and meaningful operating load. On medium-voltage switchgear, TEV and airborne ultrasound provide different external indications of possible discharge activity. An indication is not a diagnosis or proof that a particular failure would have been prevented; findings may require context, confirmation and targeted follow-up.

The aim is layered evidence: visual inspection, appropriate screening, prioritisation and confirmation.

Not necessarily. Payment records document the transaction. Repair photographs and torque records document aspects of the work. None alone verifies the thermal condition after repair.

Ask for a comparable re-check under suitable operating conditions, with the evidence and any limits recorded.

Not necessarily. A retorque can be genuine while heat-damaged material leaves enough resistance for the hotspot to return under load.

The work may be complete. That does not yet prove the condition is gone.
