Interest Rate Decisions Set for Tuesday and Thursday

When trading, the economic calendar is a tool that most investors use to know what is coming up and how the market could move.

On Tuesday, July 20, at 01:30 CET, the People’s Bank of China (PBoC) will announce its interest rate decision. The European Central Bank (ECB) will also release its interest rate decision on Thursday, July 22, at 11.45 CET.

A hawkish outlook of the economy usually leads to a rise in the interest rate, which is positive for the currency linked to that rate. If a more dovish view of the economy is seen, then this normally has the opposite effect as interest rates are seen to be kept stable or lowered. This is deemed to be negative for the region’s currency.

The interest rate in China currently stands at 3.85%, while the ECB is holding the interest rate at 0% for now.

An Outlook on the UK Services Sector

When trading, the economic calendar is a tool that most investors use to know what is coming up and how the market could move.

On Friday, July 23 at 08:30 CET the preliminary Markit Services PMI for July will be released. The PMI service is thought to provide an indication of the overall condition of sales and employment of the UK. A high reading is thought to be a positive sign for the GBP, as a reading above 50 is a sign of expansion. A reading below 50 is a sign of contraction.

The latest figure stands at 62.4.
