8 years later, and I still believe every effort counts. This is our recent interview with Free Malaysia Today

What started as a simple desire to do something for our environment has become a journey involving thousands of people, countless conversations, and many lessons along the way.

There are days when I wonder how much longer we need to keep cleaning the same beaches.

Then I remind myself - we do this because of our natural love for nature, and along the way we might help shift people's behaviour. And that takes time.

Proud of how far MY Clean Beach has come, and even more excited about where we are heading next. We are not done yet. 💙

8 years. Thousands of volunteers. Tonnes of waste.
And we are still showing up.

When we started MY Clean Beach, we knew cleaning one beach would not change the world.

But we also knew that doing nothing certainly wouldn’t.

For more than 8 years, we have walked Malaysian beaches, picked up what others left behind, worked alongside volunteers and organizations, and kept speaking about something that should matter to every one of us:

Our responsibility towards the environment.

Have there been moments when we wondered, “How much longer do we have to keep doing this?”

Absolutely.

You clean a beach today, only to return another day and find waste there again.

It can be frustrating.

But perhaps that is exactly why we cannot stop.

Because every clean-up means another person sees the problem up close.
Another conversation begins.

Another child is watching.
Another organisation starts taking responsibility.
Another opportunity to change a habit.

Recently, we had the opportunity to speak with FMT Free Malaysia Today about our journey and why we continue doing what we do.

After all these years, we are grateful that our story is still being heard.

But more importantly, our work is far from finished.

8 years and counting. And we have no plans to stop.

September to Remember! ✨

Some months are filled with activities. Others are filled with experiences that remind you just how far your journey has taken you. September has certainly been one of those months.

One of the biggest highlights was my trip to Hangzhou, China, where I had the privilege of being invited to serve as an Ambassador for the Alibaba Her Power Program and as a Panel Speaker.

Stepping into the Alibaba ecosystem was an experience in itself. Beyond the technology, innovation, and sheer scale of what Alibaba has built, what fascinated me most was the people, their mindset, and the culture behind it all.

Being surrounded by inspiring women, entrepreneurs, and leaders from different parts of the world reminded me that growth often happens when we step beyond familiar environments, exchange perspectives, and remain curious about what is possible.

When it was my turn to introduce myself, I described myself simply as a “People and Planet person.”Those two words represent so much of the work I do today.

And what did this “People and Planet person” talk about during the panel session? I’ll save that story for my future post.

As someone who spends much of my time advocating for Social Intelligence and human capabilities, the experience reinforced something I strongly believe:

The world may be advancing through technology, but it is our ability to connect, collaborate, and understand people that makes progress meaningful.

I returned from Hangzhou with new connections, fresh perspectives, and plenty to reflect on.

A special thank you to Vivian Piao, the strong lady behind this program, and Chandee Zhuang one of its strongest supporters. Thank you for creating a space for women from across the globe to connect, learn, and share.

And September didn’t stop there!

It was also a month of meaningful conversations and opportunities to share my work on Social Sensitivity with wider audiences:

And then there was one little personal moment that made it even more special ….....

I finally got to hold and play a handpan, something I have wanted to do for the longest time! ❤️

Perhaps that is what made the month so memorable. Not just the big milestones, but the little wishes that found their way into the story too.

From conversations in Malaysia to sharing a stage in China, September reminded me that sometimes the work you quietly believe in takes you to places you never imagined.

Grateful for every invitation, every conversation, every connection, and every unexpected little moment along the way.
