Mat Ruzlin Bin Maulud (MRM) has over 30 years experience as a Gemologist/Economic Geologist; 13 years as a researcher, lecturer in Gemology, Mineralogy, Analytical Geology and Economic Geology at the Department of Geology, University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur and over 17 years as a practicing Geologist / Economic Geologist with several established mining related Companies. Formally a graduate of Geo
logy (BSc (Hons) from the University of Malaya (UM, 1983) and M Sc. in Industrial Minerals from the University of Leicester, UK, (LU, 1993), Mat started his career as a Geologist in July, 1983 as a Project Geologist with MMC Bhd. He was actively involved in setting-up of the Mengapur Base Metal Project Base Camp in Maran, Pahang. His responsibilities includes coordinating and setting up of Base Camp with infrastructure for 200 exploration personal, liaison with government official on subject pertaining to licensing and permitting, human relations with local citizens and labour management. Geological responsibilities include geological, structural and geochemical mapping, supervision of diamond drilling operation and logging of diamond drilling cores. While with MMC, he was also involved in gold Exploration in the USA, Canada (California, Nevada, Washington, Oregon, Alaska and British Columbia), diamond exploration with Ashton Mining in Bauhemia Down / Kimberly area and also in Sarawak and part of Borneo and coordinated several gold-copper projects within Malaysia with Plutonic Resources, Australia. In 1993, sponsored by the Government of Malaysia, Mat pursue post graduate studies (MSc, PhD) at the University of Leicester, UK. He completed his MSc in Industrial Minerals in 1994 and his research work titled "Determination on the origin of Sapphires: A Matrix Analysis" was upgraded to PhD status in 1995. Mat started lecturing at the Department of Geology, University of Malaya in 1998 giving lectures in Gemology, Mineralogy, Industrial Minerals and Economic Geology. In 2006, Mat left the Unversity to joined Malaco Mining Sdn. Bhd (MMSB), designated as Chief Geologist and later Mine Manager at Mengapur Copper Mine, Maran, Pahang. He helped established and see through the development, completion and production of previously Malaysia Mining Corporationโs (MMC Bhd.) Mengapur poly-metallic skarn type deposit. His responsibilities includes carrying out liaison with government official (JMG/JAS/PTG/SCDC) on subject pertaining to licensing and permitting (MC, ML), office administration, supervised the construction of Mine office building, quarters, workshop, laboratory, copper floatation plant and 4MW generated power supply. He also supervised earth work/moving for open pit mining, construction of tailing ponds and buns maintance, stock piling, crushing, mine feed, general running of copper floatation plant, maintaining EIA requirement in compliance with standards set by JAS, Pahang and other mining activities. In June, 2010, Mat on his own established MRM Gem Consultancy and Geological Services (MRMGCGS). Working from a home-based office, MRM operates a Gemological Office & Laboratory with full gemological facilities. Apart from gem testing & identification related works he also carried out consultation work on economic minerals such as gold and copper and Industrial Mineral products e.g. dolomite, limestone, feldspars, Iron Ore, Gold, Copper and other Minerals. In January, 2011, Mat was appointed as an External Consultant/ Senior Project Geologist by ASVI Technical Services Group (ASVITSG) and was attached to Vatukoula Gold Mine(VGML) Fiji (formerly Emperor Gold Mine Fiji Ltd). Works includes Project Management, training, drilling supervision and crew management, mapping, logging, sampling of deep hole cores, correlation works, resource evaluation and other related works. He was later also given the responsibilities as Project Manager at ASVITSGโs gold exploration projects in South Korea and in Mersing, Johore, Malaysia.Vietnam & Cambodia. Mat is currently managing his own MRM Gem Consultancy & Geological Services fulltime.
