This year’s InterChamber Ladies Sundowner was a record-breaking success. Almost as soon as registrations opened, the event was completely sold out.

With an incredible 13 participating Chambers, the evening brought together women from diverse backgrounds, industries and leadership roles to do what we do best — connect, network and build meaningful relationships.

Tara Méité, Deputy Executive Director of Malaysian-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MGCC) and lead organiser of the event, shared eye-opening statistics on women in the workforce across Europe and Malaysia, as well as the many life transitions women experience that can impact career progression.

One particularly striking example was an AI-generated comparison between fictitious male and female CVs — where the AI itself favoured the “male” candidate by a staggering 60%. A powerful reminder that despite advancements in technology and society, bias still exists in many forms.

Even more concerning is how early these perceptions begin. Girls as young as five or six are already learning to think, “I’m a girl, I can’t do this.” Too often, they are conditioned not to dream as boldly as boys.

While progress has been made, there is still a long way to go in building a truly equal society.

Thank you to MGCC and all participating Chambers for creating such a meaningful evening in celebration of the incredible women in our community. MABC is honoured to have be part of this event.
