The 2026 budget was announced today. The tax highlights are:
•Carbon tax to be introduced next year will initially focus on iron, steel and energy sectors.
•RM1,000 income tax relief for entrance fees to local tourist attractions and cultural events.
•Additional 50% tax deduction for small and medium enterprises on expenses for certified training related to AI and cybersecurity.
•Income tax exemption for social enterprises extended to 2028.
•The existing RM3,000 tax relief for life insurance/takaful premiums (self and spouse) will be extended to cover children.
•New companies involved in food products will get 100% income tax exemption on statutory income for 10 years while existing companies expanding their projects will get the full exemption for 5 years. Application period for this tax incentive extended until 31 December 2030.
•100% Green Asset Investment Tax Allowance for Own Use given to companies that use locally manufactured green technology products recognised by MyHIJAU Mark.
•Excise duty rate on alcoholic beverages to increase by 10%starting 1 November 2025.
•Effective 1 November 2025, excise duties on to***co products will be increased.
•Salary threshold value for employment contract exempted from stamp duty increased from RM300 to RM3,000 per month beginning 1 January 2025.
•Stamp duty on residential property transfer by nonresident and foreign companies increased from 4% to 8%.
•Full stamp duty exemption on transfer instruments and loan agreements for the purchase of first home priced up to RM500,000 extended for another 2 years until 31 December 2027.

Tax Associate

Job Descriptions:
•Assist in preparation of employer tax documents, individuals’ and companies’ income tax computation and returns.
•Assist in providing tax and business advice.
•Assist in filing of tax returns.
•Assist in liaising and submitting documents to relevant authorities (e.g. LHDN).
•Use tax software.
•Collect and check tax filing information and documents.
•Ensure timely submission of Form CP204 & Form CP204A.
•Perform any duties assigned by Tax Seniors / Manager.

Requirements:
•Professional accounting qualification and/or a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Diploma in accounting.

A record RM421billion spending has been announced in the budget 2025 today. It was also announced that the monthly minimum wage to be increased from RM1,500 to RM1,700 from 1 February 2025 and deferment for 6 months would be granted for businesses with fewer than 5 employees. The tax highlights of the 2025 budget are as follows:
* Businesses adopting e-invoicing will be eligible for accelerated capital allowances. The allowance will apply to expenses related to the purchase of ICT equipment, software packages, and consultancy fees. Businesses can claim the full amount of these expenses within 2 years.
* ⁠Government raises the windfall profit levy threshold for palm oil to RM3,150 per tonne in Peninsular Malaysia and RM3,650 in Sabah and Sarawak. Market price structure price structure and export duty rates for crude palm oil (CPO) will be revised starting 1 November 2024. The current treatment for CPO exports from Sabah and Sarawak will be maintained.
* ⁠Up to RM7,000 individual tax relief on housing loan interest payments for first home ownership. The maximum relief will be extended to buyers of homes valued at up to RM500,000 while those buying residential property between RM500,000 and RM750,000 will get tax relief of up to RM5,000. This relief will be offered for those on sale and purchase agreements finalised between 1 January 2025 and 31 December 2027.
* ⁠2% tax to be imposed on dividend income exceeding RM100,000 annually effective year of assessment 2025.
* ⁠Sales and service tax (SST) to be implemented more progressively in a way not to burden the public. SST expansion will take effect from 1 May 2025.
* ⁠Excise duty on sugary drinks to be raised by 40 sen per litre on 1 January 2025.
