For 12 years, Bauke Mollema has been a studious leader while giving Trekβs road program some of its most iconic moments. Heβs retiring as a legend of cycling. This parting gift is the least we could do for a man who has helped shape Trek on the worldβs biggest stages.
His custom Madone is a testament to his incredible palmarès and voracious reading habits. He could plow through six books during a Grand Tour, reading as a way to calm his mind ahead of scintillating efforts that led to stage wins at the Vuelta a España (2013) and Tour de France (2017 and 2021). The bike also includes nods to his one-day genius at races like the ClÑsica de San SebastiÑn in 2016, and his Monument win at Il Lombardia in 2019.
The bike was painted in Trekβs EnvironOxide Moondust scheme (π trek.bike/EnvironOxide) to give it a paper-like quality, with orange lettering to honor a Dutch legend and national champion. In place of the Trek head badge on the front of the bike, Bauke has a custom logo using his initials ... which will be handy if he starts his own publishing company one day.
Finally, along the chainstay, an acknowledgment of his once contentious (and now MUCH improved) relationship with our friends at Sram. IYKYK π
Thank you Bauke for everything youβve given us. Itβs been a helluva journey (and now you have some time to write about it.)
