Inhumane treatment of foreign immigrant workers in Malaysia had been going on for so long and lately, over the years these issues had been brought to the surface through workplace audits. Some of them directly violate international labor standards on human rights and labeled as forced labor and modern slavery. We as a developing country need to more sensitive and coherent in managing immigrant workers for it reflects our social responsibility.

The Malaysian Code of Corporate Governance 2021 addresses the urgent need for companies to manage Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) risks and opportunities, with the introduction of new best practices that emphasise the need for collective action by boards and senior management. The Securities Commission’s review of sustainability statements by large listed companies found that some have begun to address climate-related risks but more can and needs to be done. It's a positive move towards ESG reporting to achieve net zero in fighting climate change and also being socially responsible.
