This client lost his mother sometime last year.
Her passing came so suddenly… no one saw it coming.
There was no time to prepare, no chance to say everything they wanted to say.
It left the family in shock, trying to come to terms with a loss that felt too fast, too unexpected.
After some time, her son came to me, hoping to understand how to handle his mother’s estate.
Unfortunately, she did not leave behind a will.
What should have been a straightforward process has now become more complicated and emotionally draining.

He has to apply for a Letter of Administration (LA), and along the way, he is required to provide many supporting documents.
One of the biggest challenges he faces now…
He needs the death cert of his grandparents,
but he simply doesn’t have them.

In the midst of grief, he now has to search, to ask around, to piece together information that may no longer be easily found.
Moments like this remind us…
when everything happens too suddenly, the ones left behind are the ones who carry the burden.
A simple act of planning ahead, like writing a will, is not for ourselves, but a final act of love for the family we leave behind.

今天约了一位顾客在律师事务所见面，讨论有关遗产管理的事务。
今天来的是一对姐弟。
他们的母亲在没有任何预兆的情况下，突然离开了人世，也来不及立下一份遗嘱。
面对母亲的离去，他们除了悲伤，还必须开始面对现实的问题——
母亲留下来的遗产，该如何处理？该如何分配？
因为 没有遗嘱，家人必须向法庭申请 遗产管理书（Letter of Administration, LA），才能合法处理遗产事务。
而这个过程往往 手续繁琐、时间较长，也需要更多的文件与程序。
很多时候，当事情真正发生后，家人才发现：
如果当初能早点做好规划，一切都会简单很多。
所以我也常常提醒身边的朋友和顾客：
在我们还健康、还能够清楚表达自己意愿的时候，提早立下一份有效的遗嘱，是对家人最体贴的一份安排。
因为当有一天我们不在了，
这份准备，不只是资产的分配，
更是 减少家人烦恼与负担的一份爱。
