Assistant production manager
The Assistant Production Manager supports the Production Manager in overseeing daily manufacturing operations of racking systems, ensuring production targets, quality standards, safety requirements, and delivery schedules are met. This role coordinates manpower, machines, materials, and methods to achieve efficient and cost-effective production.
Key Responsibilities
1. Production Operations
Assist in planning, scheduling, and monitoring daily and weekly production activities for racking components (uprights, beams, bracings, accessories).
Ensure production output meets planned targets in terms of quantity, quality, and delivery timeline.
Coordinate workflow between cutting, punching, roll-forming, welding, powder coating, and packing sections.
2. Manpower & Supervision
Supervise production supervisors, technicians, and operators on the shop floor.
Assist in manpower allocation, shift planning, and overtime control.
Train and guide workers on work instructions, SOPs, and safe work practices.
3. Quality Control
Ensure products comply with drawings, specifications, and quality standards.
Work closely with QA/QC to reduce defects, rework, and scrap.
Support implementation of corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
4. Safety & Compliance
Enforce workplace safety rules and proper use of PPE.
Assist in compliance with DOSH, ISO, and company safety policies.
Participate in safety audits, toolbox meetings, and incident investigations.
5. Material & Inventory Control
Coordinate with store and planning teams to ensure raw material availability (steel coils, plates, bolts, etc.).
Monitor material usage to minimize wastage.
Assist in controlling WIP and finished goods inventory.
6. Machine & Maintenance Coordination
Monitor machine performance and downtime.
Coordinate with maintenance team for preventive and breakdown maintenance.
Ensure machines are operated according to standard parameters.
7. Reporting & Documentation
Prepare daily production reports, downtime reports, and efficiency analysis.
Assist in KPI tracking (output, rejection rate, on-time delivery).
Maintain production records and documentation.
8. Continuous Improvement
Support productivity improvement, cost reduction, and process optimization initiatives.
Participate in lean manufacturing, 5S, and Kaizen activities.
Requirements
Education
Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, or related field.
Experience
Minimum 2–5 years experience in a manufacturing environment.
Experience in racking systems, steel fabrication, roll-forming, or metal works is a strong advantage.
Skills & Competencies
Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and production flow.
Basic knowledge of engineering drawings.
Leadership and people management skills.
Good problem-solving and decision-making ability.
Familiar with ISO 9001, safety standards, and factory regulations.
Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, basic reporting).
Working Conditions
Factory-based role.
May require shift work, overtime, or weekend support depending on production demand.

Reports directly to Production Manager.
