Empowering Women for Climate Resilience: Leveraging the SIGI in Southern Africa
Firstly we must to anticipate and address the increased risk of gender-based violence in climate crises and natural disasters, and ensure our responses are inclusive of survivors and those at increased risk for experiencing gender-based violence, including as they access and protect natural resources and deploy climate solutions (2).

Empowering Women for Climate Resilience: Leveraging the SIGI in Southern Africa.
On September 23, 2025, the OECD Development Centre hosted from Paris, a virtual policy dialogue on the gender climate nexus in Southern Africa, bringing together about 40 stakeholders. During the event, I had an opportunity to underline that gender based violence (GBV) and the climate crisis are deeply connected as existing inequalities are magnified by environmental disasters.
