Senegal’s President Bassirou Diomaye Faye fired the country’s Prime Minister, Ousmane Sonko, on Friday evening.

Faye also dissolved the government, as announced by the Secretary‑General of the Senegalese Presidency, Oumar Ba.

In a statement, Ba said the outgoing Cabinet was tasked with handling day‑to‑day affairs until a new government is formed.

The Senegalese Presidency has not disclosed further information on the dismissals.

Faye and Sonko contested the November 2024 elections as allies, with their Pastef party winning 130 out of 165 seats in Parliament and having since implemented sweeping reforms, including debt restructuring.

However, reports of tensions between the two leaders have been making headlines for months.
