To mourn or to celebrate Hage
Comrade, friend, father, husband
To assume you had known Hage
Yet who has not known
Yes the towering specimen he
And yet today in death towers
And a nation at shocked stand still
To start writing “Ha” what to complete
To write Hage is the easier
Yet Harambe comes second equal
Yet were it my power in language
Would I deign similitude of the two
Would Hage mean Harambe
Etched in the history of a nation
And stature elevated to another two
Even he a third was of them that live
All stalwarts that governed the brave
Each of note perpetuating a legacy
Allow me a grace on Hage
Comrades, friends and countrymen
Allow this humble eulogy not personal
Can a man bear good fruit and be unshaken
All village boys know to shake a tree of fruit
Could sweet fruit be perennial
Alas would our eating be for granted
Yet here lies the man flesh and bones
And now interred with his fathers
Yet not to sublime oblivion
To forget Hage, God forbid the sin
Yes, condole a nation and a house
To him were dearly cherished
Is it a loss that we lose Hage?
Did he not fight his fight of winners?
It was not eternal to be flesh and bones
Does national sainthood not befit him?
It is trite he was one for just justice
Indeed he cried just justice for Palestine
Land of the brave be brave again
Rise to the greatness of Mandume
Rise to the selflessness of Hendrik
Learn the words and heart of Tate Sam
Is Hifikepunye not witness and testament
This role of braves we etch Hage
Emblazon these selfless souls at our gates
A reminder of the great exodus of a nation
Engrave their names on our ways and byways
Where not cities named after founders and heroes
Enkindle the fire that burned their hearts
Where no one must be left behind
Was Hage not a man in all seasons
Commiserating with the bereaved
Passionate singer in humble chorus
What at the stadium heartful soccer
Loved laughed a good joke
Revolutionary thought
That shaped the trajectory of nationhood
Evolutionary sentiment
A sustainable development order
Regenesis of a nation
United purpose, innovation, resilience
Thus we salute You Comrade
We are not morning this demise
You live in our hearts
For we carry forward the torch
You are not dead yet Hage
Long Live Harambe
