A love story about Ndina-Ombili and Nangenda
This is a short fictional story about 20-year-old Ndina-Ombili who left her hometown in Namibia 🇳🇦 to live her best international life in the big city of Shanghai. She met her 30-year-old boyfriend named Nangenda who moved from Ghana 🇬🇭 to establish a language school in the big city of Shanghai.
In the hot and humid summer of 2018 Ndina-Ombili the young vibrant 20-year-old girl just arrived in Shanghai. To start off a new journey of learning a foreign language, she was awarded a prestigious scholarship in her home country by the Ministry of education. Her father who was the Minister of education that year took her at the airport before she took the 14 hour flight from Hosea Kutako international airport to Pudong international airport . She was excited looking forward to the new life ahead of her. She was also truly excited to leave her home because her father was extremely strict and she didn’t like to follow the rules that her father imposed.
As she arrived at the airport, she wasn’t prepared for what she found there. After picking up her bag from the luggage counter. She mysteriously went through the immigration process. There were two police man who came to her, they didn’t speak English so communication was nearly impossible. They took her passport, scanned through her passport, asked her what she came to do in Shanghai that year. She answered in English trying to explain that I don’t understand what you are saying. They left her to seat down by a chair close to an immigration counter until the immigration officer who spoke English came to assist her with translation so that she can get a stamp to enter the country.
Finally with a sigh she proceeded to find a taxi that took her to Shanghai downtown. She was so tired she didn’t bother to know about the transportation price from Pudong international airport to her apartment that the international language college arranged that for her. As she arrived, she ended up paying 500 yuan for this trip which was the last cash in her wallet.
Fast forward Ndina-Ombili settled in the town, despite her background where she was raised to be very conservative, her nature was open and eager to explore new culture. During the period of her 2 years of studies in Shanghai she befriended with a lovely girl from Zimbabwe, they both enjoyed hanging out, window shopping in luxurious malls, going for trips and eating in high end restaurants, they could both afford these lifestyles because, both of their parents would send them enough monthly allowance, they also taught part time jobs and received scholarship monthly stipend therefore it was easy to navigate their expenses.
After graduation Ndina-Ombili decided to change her religion from practicing Islam to Christianity because she felt her friend was cooler than her. She truly wanted to be like her friend.
Who was living with her Zimbabwean boyfriend in Guangzhou city at that time. Ndina-Ombili and her friend would have a catch up call once in a while and her friend introduced her to more international friends. She eventually met Nangenda, they met at a birthday party of one of her other friend who they were both working at the same international company in Shanghai.
Nangenda was a tall handsome man, and he was really outgoing, as he approached Ndina-Ombili, he knew he would like to befriend her. They started speaking about what they do in Shanghai. Ndina-Ombili, was doing well she had her first entry job in an international company and they were paying her 20000yuan for a translation job description. Meanwhile Nangenda told her that he is a business man, running a language school in the suburban area of Shanghai. On their first date Nangenda gave Ndina-Ombili, a Rolex rose golden watch and beautiful flowers. He told her that his business is doing well and hope that she can also be part of the company so that they can build it together. That night they made a verbal agreement Ndina-Ombili, will own some shares of the company. She just needed to devote some time over the weekend and help him were she could. Nangenda was very physical and Ndina-Ombili, enjoyed the attention she got from Nangenda. He promised her when he succeeds, he will buy her the entire world.
Slowly as time passed Ndina-Ombili, devoted time to Nangenda’s company, and they continued to spend beautiful Friday night out and weekends, getting more beautiful gifts and enjoying vacation time.
After 1 year of their relationship, Ndina-Ombili, had a good amount of saving in her international bank account. While Nangenda was struggling with overheads of the business. This was a very difficult time for his business because there was a racial scandal in his company. Most of the teachers he employed were from African nationalities and the parents of the children who were his customers decided to stop learning with his school. Because they thought they could go to the newly opened center nearby in the same location because there were more nationalities.
Nangenda and his partners of the language school had a really hard time, saving the school. In the midst of trying to save the business they ended up having a very serious arguments on how to move forward. Not only that, they ended up stumbling in a bigger major financial challenge after having their company business bank account frozen because of fraud allegations associated to their business name.
As Nangenda was going through this experience Ndina-Ombili, stood by his side, paying for him his monthly bills because he didn’t have any savings for emergencies. He had assets in Ghana, two properties that he bought however they were still not bringing in any income because they were both located in an old coastal ghost town area in the west coast of Ghana. Nangenda was really frustrated during this period; he would even shout at Ndina-Ombili, whenever she made mistakes e.g being late for a date night or being clumsy in the kitchen. Meanwhile Nangenda was trying to recover from the financial crises he found out that his passport number was registered by an agent that he used years ago, under a company that was doing illegal trading. For this reason, he got a notice from the immigration office to leave China within 7 days. Because it was high case, he had to leave without legal representation.
Ndina-Ombili, was heartbroken and she also felt devastated and decided to relocate to her home country Namibia 🇳🇦 . As years went by, they both lost touch and went separate ways.
