🌴 The Isle of Pines, which is part of the 🇫🇷 French overseas territory of New Caledonia, is renowned for its unique biodiversity and fragile ecosystems, including tropical forests and coastal wetlands.

🔥 On 30 November 2025, a wildfire broke out on the island, spreading toward the town of Vao. The Copernicus Emergency Management Service (CEMS) was activated (EMSR852) to deliver emergency mapping for wildfire extent estimation.

This , based on data from CEMS, shows the extent of the fire as of 7 December 2025, 22:49 UTC. The area affected by the fire, shown in orange, covers the island’s central region and includes 1,856.7 hectares of land, 1.0 hectare of built-up areas, and 40.8 kilometres of roads.

🛰️ The open data provided by the Sentinel satellites and services plays a crucial role in monitoring and mapping the extent and impacts of wildfires worldwide.
