This week, Iโ€™m working with the Ebonyi State Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency (EBSMEDA) to run a two-day in-house training on Artificial Intelligence for Ease of Doing Business.

The goal is simple.
People hear the word โ€œAIโ€ every day, but most still struggle to connect it to their actual work or to the MSMEs they support.

So weโ€™re stripping it down to what important.

Weโ€™ll cover:
How AI can cut processing time for business registration
How staff can use it to respond faster and with more accuracy
How MSMEs can use AI for marketing, pricing, bookkeeping and customer support
How government teams can work with AI tools safely, responsibly, and without creating new risks
โ€ข What โ€œAI for Ease of Doing Businessโ€ looks like in reality.

This session is for the Ebonyi One-Stop-Shop desk officers and technical staff from across the key regulatory agencies and SABER Technical Team

Thank you to Dr. Stephen Odo, Director-General of EBSMEDA, for trusting me with this work.

Looking forward to the conversations, the questions, and the systems we will strengthen from here.

If you work in government, public institutions, or MSME support and you want similar training for your team, you can reach me.

Iโ€™ve been watching the reactions to OpenAIโ€™s new AI-powered browser, ChatGPT Atlas.
Itโ€™s impressive. But also unsettling.

While most people see convenience: autofilled forms, summarised pages, automated clicks, those of us in the nonprofit and humanitarian field see exposure.

And not the good kind.

Our work often involves data that is not just โ€œsensitive.โ€ Itโ€™s personal, private, sometimes life-threatening if leaked or mishandled.

A browser that can act for you sounds efficient, until you realise it can also see for you.
The challenge is that the same innovation that can streamline donor reporting could, if misused, compromise a protection case or leak beneficiary records.

And many of our teams donโ€™t have the luxury of separate devices at a time. We canโ€™t afford to treat AI browsers like normal tech rollouts.

There is need for policies, training, and a bit of skepticism built into our systems.

This is not about fear of AI.

AI belongs in humanitarian work, but only if it respects confidentiality, local realities, and human dignity.

So yes, explore Atlas. But with guardrails.
Once trust is lost, is harder to rebuild than any dataset.

๐™‰๐™ค๐™ฃ๐™ฅ๐™ง๐™ค๐™›๐™ž๐™ฉ ๐™ˆ๐™–๐™ฉ๐™๐™จ: Imagine donating โ‚ฆ๐Ÿญand watching it transform into โ‚ฆ๐Ÿฏ of change.

I donโ€™t mean in your pocket, but in healthier children, stronger mothers, and a community that thrives.

Itโ€™s not abstract. Itโ€™s applied, practical math designed to help nonprofits ๐—บ๐—ฒ๐—ฎ๐˜€๐˜‚๐—ฟ๐—ฒ, ๐—ฝ๐—น๐—ฎ๐—ป, and ๐—ฐ๐—ผ๐—บ๐—บ๐˜‚๐—ป๐—ถ๐—ฐ๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ฒ ๐—ถ๐—บ๐—ฝ๐—ฎ๐—ฐ๐˜. And you donโ€™t need to be an accountant to understand it.

Take ๐—ฆ๐—ฅ๐—ข๐—œ (๐—ฆ๐—ผ๐—ฐ๐—ถ๐—ฎ๐—น ๐—ฅ๐—ฒ๐˜๐˜‚๐—ฟ๐—ป ๐—ผ๐—ป ๐—œ๐—ป๐˜ƒ๐—ฒ๐˜€๐˜๐—บ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐˜)for instance-

Itโ€™s a way of putting numbers to your impact so funders and boards can see the value created compared to the money spent. Think of it as impact per naira/dollar.

It answers the question every donor secretly has:

SROI = Total Social Value รท Total Investment

For instance (Using VitalNutrient as a case study).

Investment = โ‚ฆ2,000,000
Social value =
SROI = 6,000,000 รท 2,000,000 = 3

3 worth of social value. In real-world outcomes that last.

The math is easy. The challenge is being about how you calculate social value.

-Shows where every value came from.
-Uses conservative assumptions.
-Separates hard data (hospital visits avoided) from softer estimates (community cohesion).

The bottom line is this - when nonprofits master this kind of maths, they stop just telling stories and start proving them.

My philosophy about Artificial Intelligence (AI) is this:

Communities should not just consume AI-they should shape it. Policy, design, data. All of it.

Thatโ€™s why Iโ€™m starting where people already are- WhatsApp. If youโ€™re on my contact list, youโ€™ll get AI basics broken down in English and in Pidgin.

Sometimes, to explain AI, na Pidgin go carry am reach ground.

This is about AI literacy as a community tool. When people understand AI, they can shape how it affects their lives, not the other way around.

Bringing AI down from the clouds and into the village square๐Ÿ˜Š.

For nonprofits and social impact organizations, choosing your Fiscal Year (FY) is one of the most strategic moves youโ€™ll ever make; yet, most founders wing it or copy what everyone else is doing. Donโ€™t.

Hereโ€™s a simple breakdown thatโ€™ll save your sanityโ€”and help your accountant sleep at night.

When do your key projects or programs run? When do your major projects begin or end? Does your work follow an academic/school year, government calendar, seasonal calendar, or farming season?
If you follow school terms, for instance, in Nigeria, your FY could be September 1โ€“August 31.

When do your funders request reports? Do your major grants follow a certain fiscal period? Some donors or foundations expect financial reports by specific dates. Aligning your FY with their schedule can simplify funding, grant reports, and audits.
Example: If most of your donors close their financial year on September 30, it might be wise to adopt October 1โ€“September 30.

Starting a new org?
Go with Januaryโ€“December.
Itโ€™s simple, clean, safe, and universally understood. You can always change it later as you grow.

This is the kind of backend decision that affects your front-end results. Structure is not sexy, but it keeps your impact from leaking.

Know your FY. Own your numbers.
