Have you ever questioned the distinction between a resume and a CV? Well, I have, more than once. I frequently become confused when a job posting instructs me to submit my CV while another directs me to submit my resume. So what makes a difference? We will take a quick look at that today.

The word "resume" is short for "summary" and refers to a document. It is a concise summary of a person's qualifications and is enclosed with a job application. The Latin word Curriculum Vitae, or "the course of your life," is the basis for the acronym CV. The difference between a CV and a resume is that the former is typically one page shorter.

A CV has no set length restrictions, however a resume is a description of your professional background and expertise that should be in a page, maximum of 2 pages, if unavoidable. A CV is mostly used for academic purposes, such as applications for master's or doctoral degrees which require to input all your experiences and background. while a resume is only utilized while applying for jobs and it contains only information relevant to the job.

Although the terms are frequently used, it should be clear however that resumes and CVs serve different purposes and have different length requirements.
