The aid landscape is shifting. The question is, are we shifting with it?

At the HDP Nexus Community of Practice meeting in Yola, MYIT Consult Ltd facilitated a practical session on Beyond Grants: NGO Sustainability & Institutional Survival in a Changing Aid Landscape.

The conversation was honest and necessary. Donor priorities are evolving, funding cycles are tightening, and organizations that built their entire operating model around a single stream of grants are now facing hard questions about what comes next.

We explored what sustainability actually looks like in practice, not as a buzzword, but as a set of deliberate choices: diversifying income, building partnerships beyond the usual suspects, strengthening internal systems, and designing programmes that create value long after the funding ends.

We had the privilege of visiting the Adamawa State Peace Commission (ASPC) at their office in Jimeta-Yola, Adamawa State.

What we found was a commission barely a year old, yet already impressive in its foundations: a completed strategic plan, stakeholder and donor mapping, and peace committees inaugurated across all 21 LGAs.

But what stood out most was not the paperwork. It was the clarity of purpose, the openness to collaboration, and the shared belief that peace is built, not wished for.

Our conversation centered on one question: how can we work together to strengthen the Commission's ability to prevent conflict, coordinate actors, and respond before tension becomes violence?

We explored areas where partnership and collaboration could make a real difference, strengthening institutional systems, improving coordination across partners and LGAs, and building the tools that support evidence-based peacebuilding.

We extend our sincere appreciation to Dr. Jamila B.A. Suleiman and the ASPC team for the warm reception, the honest conversation, and the openness to explore what we can build together.

We look forward to a partnership that supports lasting peace across Adamawa State.
